We are delighted to announce that 300 people now follow our page. Thank you to everyone who has chosen to connect with St Augustine's Church, West Monkton, through social media. 🙏

Our page is just one way that we share news of upcoming services, community events, church life, local activities and opportunities to get involved. It also helps us reach people who may be looking for friendship, support, worship or simply a greater connection with their local community.

Whether you attend services regularly, join one of our groups, support our events, volunteer your time, or simply enjoy keeping up with what is happening, we are grateful for your interest and encouragement.

Please continue to share our posts with friends, family and neighbours so that together we can help more people discover all that is happening within our church and community.

Thank you for being part of the journey. 💙

Today is and we're saying a BIG Happy 100th anniversary to Thrive Somerset! We are so pleased to have a great relationship with our local Thrive representative Rachael Knight, who can be contacted via [email protected] 🙌☕Rachael also runs a monthly talking cafe at Monkton Elm Garden Centre on the first Wednesday in the month 10am - 12pm. These trusted, locally based professionals provide one-to-one support to people who are vulnerable, isolated, or simply unsure where to turn. Whether it's helping someone access health services, apply for benefits, find transport, or connect with local groups, Village Agents are practical, compassionate problem-solvers embedded in the heart of Somerset life.
They often work quietly behind the scenes, but their impact is enormous: preventing crises, reducing loneliness, and giving people the tools they need to regain independence. You can find out more about Thrive here = https://thrivesomerset.org.uk/centenary/

What a great all things garden weekend we had! The skies may of been grey but the gardens certainly were not! Kicking off the weekend Andrew Pitman joined us for a ‘coffee & more’ talk on the history of Monkton Elm garden centre along with some sound advice for the gardeners. Lots of plants for sale at the church during the Open Gardens, along with plenty of yummy cakes. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the weekend and our volunteers and Andrew with special thanks to our garden hosts who kindly opened their gates and invited us in.

Churchyards are often the most biodiverse parts of a parish, floristically they represent a species rich grassland habitat that has been lost from much of the surrounding countryside. As a consequence, they are home to a wide range of common and rare wildlife. Churchyards are also of great importance for their veteran trees, ancient boundary walls and hedging which maintains diversity and supports insects and small mammals. A few years ago, a detailed botanical survey of our grounds was carried out by 3 experienced botanists from the Somerset Rare Plants Group. In total 152 species of plant were recorded. This total includes a mixture of trees and shrubs (19 species) ferns (6 species) grasses (12) and over 100 species of herb. The vast majority of plants recorded (over 80%) were native plants of the British Isles.

as part of the Love Your Burial Grounds initiative supported by the Church of England, the Church in Wales and Caring for God's Acre churches across the UK are encouraged to record the nature in and around their grounds.
