What does Confirmation mean? Do I need to be Confirmed?
Until the mid 20th century, most people were prompted to think about Confirmation in their mid-teens. Nowadays, many people reach adulthood and indeed get to middle or older age without having considered getting confirmed, and are unclear what it involves. It is in fact, the 'confirmation' of the promises made by parents and godparents at their baptism.
Confirmation used to be regarded as an essential requirement of being a 'member' of the Church of England, but we prefer to welcome rather than create hurdles, so it is a requirement only for some formal roles.
Nevertheless, some people may feel that they have missed out on something that is important, and would be interested in find out what Confirmation means and involves. If this is you, whatever your age, please get in touch directly with Rev Nicky (01984 636667 [email protected]) for an informal and no-commitment chat.
