Harvest Festival and Heritage Day at Spital Chapel 12th and 13th September.
On Saturday 12th of September Spital Chapel is joining in with national Heritage Day. We are proud to be included in this event. Spital has a long history going back to 1274 and maybe earlier. Built originally as a house of prayer, a Chantry Chapel, by Philip de Marmion, it became a wayside chapel for pilgrims visiting the shrine of St. Chad. Spital was, as its name suggests, an open door offering hospitality to those in need.

Please do join us on Saturday 12th, anytime from 10.00am until 4.00pm. The chapel will be beautifully decorated for Harvest. We are serving free refreshments as in keeping with our heritage. There will be an opportunity to look around Spital and its grounds. When I am there I will be happy to explain more about its remarkable history. We have new and updated history booklets and notice boards for anyone who wishes to know more.

We now have almost 100 Friends of Spital, and money raised goes to the upkeep of Spital and its grounds. Our aim is the well-being of this very special, holy place. Friends’ forms are available in the chapel and subscriptions still remain at £5 per year. We welcome new members.

‘Ride and Stride’ takes place on the 12th and the chapel will be open for those taking part. Forms are inside for when you arrive.

On Sunday 13th we are holding our Harvest Festival service in Spital at 5.00pm. We will sing some of our favourite harvest hymns. Harvest is always a beautiful time but Spital has an atmosphere all its own. This will be the evening service for St Leonards too.
Please do join us.

Following A Roche UK’s Easy Eco Tips 2026 Calendar, Here is their September suggestion
The Season of Creation (1 September-4 October) is dedicated to God as the Creator and sustainer of all life.
Join A Rocha UK’s Season of Creation prayer and reflection webinar on Wednesday 2 September to start this season
with others.
During this period of the church calendar, many churches celebrate Harvest, thanking God for his provision through the
land and the food that it produces. At St Leonards we will be celebrating this over the weekend of October 3rd and 4th, (further details will be advertised nearer to this date)
