Happy Boxing Day & Saint Stephen's Day - yes as in the carol "Good King Wenceslas looked out on the Feast of Stephen..." We remember St. Stephen as the world's first Christian martyr - an early deacon of the church arrested & stoned to death for challenging the Jewish authorities in Jerusalem. His faith & courage have shone through 2,000 years, & still resound in a world where, in parts of it, our brothers & sisters in Christ suffer discrimination, persecution, terrorism & murder, & are called upon to show incredible courage & faith each day of their lives.
Let us pray for peace & harmony in the world, as taught us by the Prince of Peace whose birth we remember & celebrate this & every Christmas.

As our clergy, lay-readers, parish staff & volunteers, take a few days of well-earned rest, please note that divine services in the Parish of Tamworth resume next Sunday, 31st December, New Year's Eve, as follows:-
- St. Editha's, Tamworth - 10.00 a.m. Sung Eucharist
- St. Chad's. Hopwas - 10.30 a.m. Sung Eucharist
- St. Andrew's, Kettlebrook - 6.00 p.m. Evening Prayer

St. Editha's will be open to visitors next Saturday, 30th December, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then normal opening at St. Editha's will resume from Tuesday, 2nd January 2024.

Our Christingle service here at St. Andrew's in Cross Street is at 2.00 p.m. this Christmas Eve (Sunday). All welcome. Children especially love Christingle services with the oranges and candles, and joining in with the Nativity story.
If anyone can't attend our Christingle at 2.00 p.m. there is another one at our mother church of St. Editha's, in Tamworth, at 4.00 p.m. the same day. Or, maybe, come along to both?!
Each year Christingle services raise money across the U.K. for The Children's Society to help vulnerable young people.

Last Thursday's Tamworth Herald (14th December) detailed all the Christmas services available in the churches of the Deanery of Tamworth within the Diocese of Lichfield.
If you haven't managed to get to a Nativity or a Carol Service or a Christingle as yet, please take the opportunities this weekend as Advent-tide turns to the Twelve Days of Christmas. Celebrate the real meaning and message of Christmas, and the one true gift that really matters, for all mankind.

Please note that our morning service tomorrow at St. Editha's is at the later time of 11.00 a.m. as it is Remembrance Sunday. Our civic service follows on from the Remembrance Day parade through the town & the wreath-laying & Two Minutes Silence at the outdoor memorial to all conflicts in St. Editha's Close. All welcome.
Then in the evening at 6.00 p.m. we have our Taize Eucharist service for Peace and Reconciliation. All welcome.
Through the ages mankind has tortured itself beyond belief with warfare, terrorism, & genocide that has destroyed so many lives, wiped out so much good in the world, & deprived us of so much potential good. This evil still plagues our planet, as the current news from Ukraine & Israel/Palestine constantly reminds (& horrifies) us.
Let us pray that mankind will see the Light & collectively change its ways to those of peace & goodwill, May the teaching & example of our Lord Jesus Christ, & the Love of God, prevail. Amen.
