What Is Most Important
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3).
Someone once asked the great British preacher C. H. Spurgeon if he could express his Christian faith in a few words. He said, “Yes, I can say it in just four words: Jesus died for me.”
That’s what it all boils down to. You may not be a theologian or the greatest intellect of all time. But you can tell the story of what Jesus did on the cross, how He died on the cross and shed His blood for us. There is power in that message. I have seen it transform people time and time again, because God anoints that message. He blesses it. And He uses it to pe*****te the defenses that people put up.
The apostle Paul tells us in a nutshell: “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
The gospel, plain and simple, is that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised on the third day.
Paul was known for his great oratorical skills and his command of culture and languages. If anyone could have intellectually convinced a person of the validity of something, it was the apostle Paul.
Yet here is what he said when he began to preach the gospel: "When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or with much wisdom as I proclaimed to you the mystery of God. For I determined not to know anything while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:1,2).
When we want to explain too much, we can actually hinder the message of the gospel, complicating it. And only this powerful, simple, yet profound message can change lives.
It changed your life and it changed mine.
True Love
Glorious God and Father, thank you Lord for your sacrifice on the cross for us sinners. We thank you for shedding your blood to purify us from sin. May this message, the true message of love, reach many thirsty hearts in today's times. This is our prayer in the name of Christ Jesus. Amen!
