This September marks Su***de Prevention Month, and to mark it, we're proud to be supporting Swindon and Gloucestershire Mind's Tree of Hope initiative at Beechcroft Library!

๐Ÿบ Historical Blue Plaques: John Arkell ๐Ÿบ

In support of the Swindon-Wide History Festival, we're shining a light on one of our parish's historical blue plaques!

Born into a farming family in Kempsford in 1802, John emigrated to Canada in his late twenties, before returning to England for love and settling in Stratton St Margaret. In 1843 he bought a farm and grew malting barley, and by 1861 had built a new brewery on the present site, laying the foundations for what would become Arkell's, Swindon's oldest business which is still going strong to this day!

He passed away on 21st October 1881, much mourned by the local community who knew him as "Honest John."

๐Ÿ”ต You can find John's blue plaque at Arkell's Brewery, SN2 7RU.

As the summer holidays come to a close, weโ€™d like to share how we've been making the most of the sunshine with some brilliant experiences for our young people! ๐ŸŽ‰

Itโ€™s been great to see so many young people getting involved, trying new things and enjoying time together. ๐Ÿ’š
