In loving memory of Canon Jason Jones

Earlier this morning, we lost a much-loved priest and spiritual father.

Canon Jason Jones was deeply devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and it feels especially fitting that his parish was also dedicated to the Sacred Heart. His priesthood was marked by love for First Fridays, First Saturdays, the Divine Mercy, Our Lady, the Eucharist, and the merciful Heart of Christ.

He was loved not only by his own parish, but also by the Polish, Kerala, and Filipino communities, who found in him a true shepherd, a fatherly presence, and a priest who made people feel at home in the Church.

He also had a great love for the altar. He was blessed with strong support from altar servers, encouraged young people, and was keen to promote vocations — helping boys and young men see the beauty of serving God closely at the altar.

Canon Jason was more than a priest. His tireless work often felt like the work of many priests in one. He gave himself so generously in service of souls, and alongside that faithful priesthood, he was also a friend to so many.

In many ways, he reminds me of St John Vianney, the Curé of Ars: a parish priest whose holiness was shown not in worldly greatness, but in faithful love, prayer, sacrifice, and tireless care for souls.

Of course, the Church has made no formal declaration, but speaking personally, I believe Canon Jason was a truly saintly priest.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus, whom he loved and served so faithfully, receive him with mercy and love.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on him.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for him.
St John Vianney, pray for priests and vocations.

Start them young with the Holy Rosary.

Praying the Rosary brings peace to the heart and helps us reflect on the life of Jesus through the eyes of Mary. In the mysteries, we can bring our own lives, our families, the Church, the conversion of souls, peace in the world, and reparation for sin.

Venerable Father Patrick Peyton, known as “The Rosary Priest,” spent his life encouraging families to pray together. His famous words still ring true:

“The family that prays together stays together.”

And also:

“A world at prayer is a world at peace.”

His own love for the Rosary began at home, where his family gathered each evening to pray. That is a beautiful reminder that children learn faith not only by words, but by seeing prayer lived in the family.

Teach little hearts to love Jesus through Mary.

Pray the Rosary as a family.
