Artbreak in Waunarlwyd - now held in St Barnabas Church Hall
Established in 2022 following the COVID-19 lockdowns, Artbreak has flourished within the local community.
Led by Tina Grant, an Associate Community Artist with the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, the group has explored a wide range of artistic disciplines, including animation, collage, puppet-making, drawing, painting, printmaking, mandalas and Zentangles, many of which are represented in this exhibition. Members have worked with paint, pencils, pastels, inks, a variety of printmaking techniques, and many other materials.
Since its formation, the group has explored the work of international, national and local artists, using their practice as inspiration to develop members’ skills, understanding and creativity. The group has also benefited from workshops and support from visiting artists and associate artists connected with the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, as well as tours of major exhibitions held at Swansea’s city gallery.
Throughout its development, Artbreak has produced work involving collaboration both within the group and with other community organisations.
One notable example is the artwork created for the mosaic commemorating the Elba Mining Disaster, which was unveiled by the Lord Mayor in March 2026.Each November, the group creates a display outside the Community Hall to mark Remembrance Day and has also exhibited a large collaborative drawing at the gallery.
Most recently, a quilt designed and created by the group under the guidance of Menna Buss, Associate Artist, has been selected for display as part of an exhibition in Swansea.
