Where are your doors?
Last Sunday Robin Vincent shared a powerful and reflective message with us.
He spoke about how, in today’s world, so many of our doors have disappeared. With our devices always on and always with us, access is constant and quiet spaces are rare. Yet Proverbs reminds us, above all else guard your heart.
Robin took us through a picture of different doors in scripture.
The door of home. Like the prodigal son, where the father sees him from a distance. No need to knock. A place of belonging, welcome, and return.
The door of recovery. Like the inn in the story of the Good Samaritan. A place of care, restoration, and healing. A reminder that the Church is called to be that kind of place, with our confidence in the ultimate Samaritan, Jesus.
The door of quietness. Jesus says in Matthew 6 to go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen. We also see Jesus step away to a solitary place in Mark 1, and in Genesis 24 we read of Isaac going out to meditate in the field. There is something powerful about choosing to step away and be with God.
We also slowly walked through the Lord’s Prayer together, taking time to understand the depth and meaning behind each part.
A simple but important question to carry into the week. Where are your doors, and are you creating space to meet with God?
