St Peter & St Paul church Swanscombe

St Peter & St Paul church Swanscombe Swanscombe Parish Church, located in the heart of Swanscombe, Praising the Lord here since the 12th Century. The tower may have been central.

St Peter and St Paul is a Doomsday church, it is the oldest and most interesting building in Swanscombe. There has been a church on the site since Saxon times, one church building is said to have been burnt down by Sweyne the Viking. Part of the main alter is the remains of a Saxon alter on which one can find some consecration crosses carved there by Saxon Bishops. The present building was built d

uring the early English period of the 12th and 13th centuries with the first stones being laid in the reign of Edward the Confessor (1042-1066AD). The south wall of the tower is all that remains of the original Saxon church built around the year 1050. The south facing tower window is a fine example of late Saxon workmanship. The surrounding wall is built of Roman tile, probably taken from the rubble of a disused Roman building. we currently have a 9.30am service on a sunday morning with sunday school running in the church centre along side, although watch this space for further details of other services! The church is available for weddings, funerals, thanksgivings and christenings, please contact the priest in charge (Rev. Charlie Lloyd-Evans) for further details.

Yesterday, alongside our friends at St Mary Greenhithe we said our final farewell to Revd Charlie Lloyd-Evans and Gareth Lloyd-Evans.

Over the past five and a half years, Charlie and Gareth have touched so many lives and made a lasting difference to both of our church communities. Their love, faith, friendship, and dedication have been a true blessing, and they will be deeply missed.

While there were tears as we said goodbye, our hearts are full of gratitude for all they have shared with us. We send them on their way with our love, prayers, and every blessing as they begin this new chapter of ministry to which God has called them in Hughenden, Buckinghamshire.

May God go before them, guide them, and bless them abundantly in all that lies ahead. Thank you, Charlie and Gareth—you will always be part of our church family. 💙🙏
