So yesterday was vegetation clearance and another load of 2026 queen nucs going off to their new homes. And today...it's extraction time. The poor truck was about on it's knees with this lot just from one apiary - in fact there was so much the final bits had to go in the van! It's going to be a late one tonight and every night for me for the foreseeable but there's nothing I'd rather be doing!

Sometimes the next bit of equipment required isn’t actually related to either bees or honey. Nigel brought us a heavy duty electric strimmer yesterday. Which means I can keep on top of the vegetation much more easily! I’m treating it as my one-year-today-since-leaving-employment present! 😆

Couple of pictures of today's adventure in beekeeping.
First picture is a small swarm that had come out of one of my hives.
Luckily the queen was clipped a they stayed put.
Second picture is a hive I had to intervene to stop them swarming. After I'd finished they showed their disapproval by camping on the front of the hive. It's a bit like saying no to a teenager. Lol.

The frame fairy has had to visit yet again today 😂 161 ready to go, hopefully they might last a bit longer than the 150 or so I’ve already done!

What a day 🙌

A huge thank you to everyone who came down to the Ashby Farmers & Artisan Market – whether you shopped, supported, or just stopped by for a wander.

From fresh produce to handmade goods and incredible street food, it’s always amazing to see Brook Street full of local businesses and the community coming together.

We couldn’t do it without our brilliant traders and all of you who support local 💚

See you at the next one…

Weather wasn't good this morning so I started to build the hive stands at our apiary in Swannington.
Nightmare getting them level on the uneven ground. 9.6m done so far.
We discovered scaffold jacks last year, they make life easier. The sun has come out now so time for a quick coffee and then off to look at some bees. I'll finish the stands when the weather isn't as good.
