At St Mary’s in Sutton, all are welcome to attend our services. We want you to come and to enjoy taking part. So whether you like to pray and sing out loud, perhaps receive Communion, chat and have a cuppa afterwards, or prefer to sit silently and then slip quietly away, we welcome you.

The Bible teaches us in Romans 15:7;

“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”

The call to accept one another, as Christ accepted us, is a profound mandate for Christians. It highlights the necessity of acknowledging our differences and uniting in love. Welcoming everyone to church promotes an environment of grace and support, allowing God’s glory to be on display through our interactions.

You’re welcome to join us at 10.00am on Sunday 7th June for our sung Eucharist 🎶🎶🙏

The Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is at the heart of our worship at St Mary’s in Sutton.

It is celebrated by Christians around the world as a memorial of the death and resurrection of Jesus, in response to his words at the final meal he shared with his disciples, ‘Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the Eucharist, God invites us to his table as a foretaste of the heavenly banquet which he has prepared for people of all nations and cultures.

Outwardly, the Eucharist takes the form of a shared meal of bread and wine, recalling the fact that, at the Last Supper, Jesus associated the breaking of bread and sharing of wine with his own imminent death, giving them special significance.

After his resurrection, the disciples recognised Jesus as he broke bread to share with them. Each time we share the meal Jesus shared with his friends, we remember his offering of himself on the cross, we rejoice in his resurrection from the dead, and look forward to the coming of God’s Kingdom.

‘While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.’(Matthew 26: 26-28)

The Collect for Trinity Sunday;
‘Almighty and everlasting God,
you have given us your servants grace,
by the confession of a true faith,
to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity
and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity:
keep us steadfast in this faith,
that we may evermore be defended from all adversities;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.’
