A grassroots movement
Local lay people called 'stewards' take responsibility for the fabric of church buildings and manses and for the handling of money. They share with ordained ministers the role of setting direction for the churches in a particular area or 'circuit'. Worship each week is not always led by an ordained minister, but often by a local preacher - a lay person who has been trained an

d authorized to lead worship and preach. Every ordained minister in the Methodist Church was first a local preacher.

“My Song is Love Unknown" – Good Friday Reflections at Boldmere ✨

Today at Boldmere Methodist, we gathered to walk the final, difficult steps toward the cross. Our Good Friday service, led by Rev Collins, was a profound journey of silence, scripture, and song.

We were led through the powerful words of:
📖 The Suffering Servant (Isaiah 52-53) read by Margaret
📖 Psalm 22 – A cry of desolation. Delivered by Derek
📖 Hebrews 10 – The way opened. Read by Elsie
📖 The Passion Narrative (John 18-19) – Read by our much valued worship leader, Chris.

In the Silence:
The weight of these readings was held in sacred silence, broken only by the timeless hymns that carried our prayer:
🎶 "Man of Sorrows! What a Name"
🎶 "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross"
🎶 "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?"

Thank you, Rev Collins, and our many readers, for leading us in this important act of remembrance. We are grateful for your leadership and the shared silence of this afternoon.

As we hold this silence, we hold onto the promise that the story is not over.

Hosanna in the Highest! 🌿🐴

What a wonderful morning at Boldmere Methodist as we celebrated Palm Sunday!

We remembered Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem—not on a war horse, but on a humble donkey. It was a morning filled with waving palms, powerful hymns, and the reminder that the King we follow is a King of peace and humility.

As we move into Holy Week:
Let’s carry that "Hosanna" in our hearts, even as the journey ahead leads us toward the cross.

Join us as we walk this path together. (Check out our Holy Week schedule below!) 👇

Paint, Patience, and Plenty of Fun! 🎨

We had the best time this afternoon at our church painting workshop!

There’s something so peaceful about painting tulips and bunnies while enjoying great company. It was a wonderful reminder that when we create together, we grow together.

We had a wonderful morning of worship today! We explored the incredible story of the raising of Lazarus and the life-giving river of Ezekiel.

It was a service filled with "Breath and Light." A huge thank you to Jenny for her inspiring talk and for sharing those special words from her book—it truly spoke to our hearts.

Our Prayer for the Week:
"Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to you."

May you feel the "amazing love" we sang about in 'And Can It Be' as you go about your week. See you next Sunday!

Happy Mothering Sunday from Boldmere

Today for Mothering Sunday, we were challenged to lay down our 'clipboards' of tasks and to-do lists. 📋✨ Through our liturgy and the beautiful words of John Keble, we reflected on how the 'common task' can actually be a road that brings us nearer to God when we choose to see through His eyes.

As we sang 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind,' we prayed for that 'still small voice of calm' to take the strain and stress from our souls. May we all carry that peace into the week ahead, seeing the world and each other with a 'softening gleam of love.' 🕊️

From the Garden to the Desert: Finding Strength Together 🌵✨

Today at Boldmere, we began our journey into Lent by looking at two very different landscapes: the Garden of Eden and the Judean Desert.

We explored how temptation is part of the human story, but more importantly, how Jesus showed us a different way—one built on the Word of God and total trust.

Highlights from the morning:

The Music: We sang the mighty 'And Can It Be'—a reminder that no matter how far we wander, God’s 'amazing love' finds us. We even gave 'Jesus Tempted in the Desert' a joyful lift by singing it to the tune of Ode to Joy! 🎶

The Message: Psalm 32 reminded us of the freedom found in honesty and forgiveness.

The Challenge: To "Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God" even when the world offers us shortcuts.

Whatever "wilderness" you might be facing this week, remember that you don't walk it alone. Grace is everywhere.

Sometimes we all need a 'mountain top' moment to remind us of the bigger picture. 🏔️✨

Today we explore the story of the Transfiguration—that incredible moment where Peter, James, and John saw the true glory of Jesus. But the best part? They didn’t stay on the mountain. They brought that light back down into the valley.

Whatever 'depths' you might be navigating this week, remember: the light of the mountain top stays with you even in the shadows. You are never walking alone.

✨ More Than Just a "Do-List": Discovering the Be-Attitudes
What does it actually mean to live a good life in 2026?

Today at Boldmere Methodist Church, our Minister explored the "Beatitude" from Matthew 5. We often get caught up in a "to-do" list of faith, but the Gospel reminds us that God is much more interested in our "to-be" list.

🕊️ The Blueprint for Our Week

We looked at two powerful anchors for our lives:

Micah 6:8: A simple but profound requirement—to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.

Matthew 5:1-12: The Beatitudes, showing us that true blessing is found in peace-making, humility, and heart-felt service.

🎶 A Song in Our Steps

Our hymns today reminded us of our mission to the world:

"Brother, sister, let me serve you..." "Make me a channel of your peace..."

As we sang 'One more step along the world I go', we were reminded that faith is a journey we take together, one step at a time, looking for ways to bring light to "an age of twisted values."

💬 Let’s Reflect together

Which "Be-Attitude" are you carrying into your week? Maybe it's being a peacemaker in a difficult conversation, or choosing to walk humbly when things go well.

Whatever your week holds, remember: you don’t have to walk it alone.
