Grindon Church Community Project situated on Galway Road, just off A183 on the west side of Sunderland is hidden away in the middle of a housing estate, the Grindon United Reformed Church was built in the 1950s and now works with the community in a wide variety of ways. Grindon URC became a Mission Project of the Northern Synod of the United Reformed Church in 2010 and continues as a church for

all, as well as a busy Community Centre. We are a venue for many exciting groups with room for more! The following groups are open or opening soon. We really can't wait. A weekly activity and group guide:-

Shinzen-Ki Karate 5 years to Adult Tues & Thurs 5.45pm—6.45pm Contact group

Over 50’s/ Long term heath exercise Adult Wed 10am –10.45am Currently free

Men’s Group – friendly activities and chat. Adult Wed 5.30-7.30 Free

Craft n Natter – try out a wide range of crafts or bring your own to do. Adult Wed 5.30-7.30 Free

Grindon Painters - Art group Adult Thursday 10am—12 noon £3 donation

John’s Gardening Group Adult Wednesday &Friday 10am—12 noon FREE


Garden Church/Messy Church—coming soon Everyone Details to be confirmed. FREE

We're on the lookout for leaders/teachers wanted for Tai Chi, Meditation, Mindfulness, Children's gardening, Line Dancing and more

We're hosting another event in our garden as part of the See You in the Garden collaborative project. On Sunday 5th of July we are holding a Wellness day in our garden - we've got: head, shoulder, back and neck massage, health foods and more!

If you are interested in coming along on the day, it runs from 10am-1pm, just drop us a line.

We can't wait to See You In The Garden.

COMMUNITY GARDEN FETE with The Little Onion Club

🎳 What better way to bowl off our See You in the Garden series! 🎳

By partnering with our friends at Usworth Bowling Club, who are celebrating a truly incredible milestone this year — Happy 100 Years! 💯🎉
And what better place to mark such a special birthday than right here in the Usworth Welfare Park where it all began, with a celebratory bowls match starting at 1.30pm.

📍 Located in Usworth Park - NE37 2HT (Behind the rainbow family centre)

But that’s not all…

From 12–4pm, the Park will be buzzing with family‑friendly activities, including:

🌱 Allotment open for drop‑ins
🎨 Crafts

🧶 And our wonderfully talented knitting, crochet and crafting group showcasing their amazing work — and trust us, they have plenty to show off!

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to todays Big Party. This year as part of the See You in the Garden Project we hosted The Big Lunch - Big Help Out and Big Party. We cut, weeded, trimmed, built. mowed, planted, listened to and ate together, everything you could want from a community coming together in a garden on a lovely warm Sunday.

Thankyou to all of you, to the incredible Sisters Project, to Pantastic for some fantastic tunes, to Tracy and Rob Berry from Shinzen-ki for some fabulous BBQ food, to our hard working photographer, and all of the incredible work from everyone.

A day of hard work with old friends, making new ones, and feeling the wonderful connection that community gives to all of those who are part of it.

We're planning many more events in our garden and would love to welcome more people to the centre and to grow our community.

As one of our trustee's says "Team work makes the dream work"

It's the Big Party day!! We're hosting the Big Help out - Big Lunch and Big Party today at the Project and we would love to see you all there. We've got lots of community jobs to do, BBQ food, live music and lots of laughs to be sure!

Join us 10am-4pm at Grindon Church Community Project for what's set to be a great day.
