From President Gill:

Hi everyone

It’s with great sadness that we wanted to let you all know that our patriarch Allen Carr passed away last week after a battle with cancer. Allen was much loved across the Sunderland Stake for many years but specifically as he served us for almost 10 years as our stake Patriarch. Many of you will have fond memories of his quiet compassion and been inspired by his dedication to the Saviour and His gospel that he has showed so many of us over the years.

For me he was a hugely influential character that has spanned across my life and my journey through the gospel. From being my Bishop through my troubled teens, to somehow sending me on a mission and still being there when I returned after an almost whopping 9 years as a Bishop. Then more recently being someone I could go to for advice and serving together as Patriarch and Stake President. He will be a huge miss. If anyone has any memories they would like to share please do in the comments.

At this time we ask that we allow the family time and space to grieve his passing but also pray for them as we mourn with those who mourn.

His Funeral will be on 4th September at the Stanley chapel at 10:45am. All are welcome to come are join us to remember Allen and are welcome back at Castleside Village Hall for the wake. The cemetery will be family only.

To all youth and parents of youth, please inform your Bishop if your child is wanting to attend the Stake youth temple trip in August. It's always a great opportunity for them to make friends and have a lot of fun doing baptisms as well as a variety of fun activities.

Meet David!

David is 39 (still proudly clinging to his 30s 😄), dad to his 6‑year‑old son Thomas, and works as a web/software developer. When he’s not coding, you’ll probably find him at a pool table — he plays for two teams and admits he’s a bit of a pool shark.

Earlier this year, life took a difficult turn and he found himself feeling lonely and low. Then one day a Church advert appeared in his Facebook reels. After a bit of back-and-forth, he decided to fill in the form — and the missionaries reached out a few days later. Since then, he says it’s been a wonderful journey.

We’re grateful to have David in the stake and look forward to getting to know him better.
