A statement from the Sunderland Minster PCC:
The governing body of Sunderland Minster (the PCC) met on Monday 1 June to discuss the recent post on our social media account challenging the Supreme Court’s ruling on the definition of s*x. The post would not have been supported by the trustees if we had been consulted in advance, nor do we support it retrospectively. It is important that we at Sunderland Minster respect the rule of law and the poster has since been removed. The social media post has also been deleted.
We are now consulting with the EHRC for specific advice, and we are reviewing a number of our own internal policies, including our use of social media to ensure that all posts are properly considered and scrutinised before publication. We are in touch with the safeguarding team at the Diocese of Durham to ensure proper safeguarding procedures are being followed. We would like to apologise to those who have been upset in the last week. Please be assured that, as a member of the Inclusive Church network, we will continue to offer pastoral care to all. Sunderland Minster remains committed to the Inclusive Church network, working to end discrimination and inequality.

It was a joy to baptise Mabel at the Minster on Pentecost Sunday. Parents Caitlin & Juxhin were joined by lots of family & friends to witness and support. Unlike the disciples at the first Pentecost however, Mabel slept through as the Holy Spirit was poured out on her!

While Sunderland AFC was securing their place in the Europa League for next season, Canon Clare MacLaren and Revd Jacqui Tyson were attending a beautiful "Pentecost Praise" service at St Gabriel's Church Sunderland. (🙏🏼Canon Clare was definitely praying quietly for our team during the service!🙏🏼)

This is the first time in a while that such a service has happened in Wearmouth Deanery - and 😇 Revd Emma Parker 😇 led it beautifully! As well as singing, praying and being anointed with holy oil, we also had a chance to look at the lovely (and only) stained glass window in the church - an image, appropriately,of the coming of the Holy Spirit!! 🥰

After a cracking weekend of ⚽ football ⚽ and of 🎶 music, with the , 🎶 we're praying that it can only be onwards and upwards for our City and for our Churches!!
🙏🏼❤️SUNDERLAND❤️🙏🏼
