How many different butterflies can you spot this week for Love your Churchyard? 🦋Please record them and anything else you spot in our nature log in church😊🐝🌳🐞

Third in our Churches Count on Nature FREE webinars on Wednesday 10th June is Making our Churchyards a Home for Butterflies.

The UK has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows since WWII. Many of the remaining fragments of ancient wild flower areas are found in in our church yards and burial grounds. This webinar sets out how theses vitally important wildlife areas can be managed and enhanced.

I received some sad news from his family recently that Revd Dr Colin Greene died on Wednesday 27th May. He had been suffering with cancer along with other complications.

As a previous incumbent at St Gregory's Church there will be parishioners who will remember him and some who might like to attend his funeral- service details and to make a donation in his memory are here: https://revdrcolingreene.muchloved.com/

Sadly his wife Karen died 2 years ago also of cancer.

Please pray for Colin's family - especially his children Peter, Naomi and Kathryn and their families- at this difficult time.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.🙏

From the Rector Revd Gaenor

Dedicated to the memory of Rev Dr Colin Greene

Our Great Hymnathon Challenge is rapidly approaching!

Over the 2+ days, the organists of St Gregory’s (and guests) will be playing all of the 847 hymns in the Ancient & Modern hymn book!

Why? Gordon, one of the church's organists explains...

“We adore playing hymns of such beautiful music and incredible meaning, that have connected generations, marked life’s milestones and inspired faith and worship for hundreds of years and their power lives on. Yet so many of the 847 hymns in our Ancient and Modern hymn book never get played. So we’re going to play the lot, in one go, then anyone can come into our great church to hear for the first time very rarely heard ones, or their favourite ones, played on an impressive organ, for free. And if you want to sing, please do!
We will start on Friday 19 June at 9pm and finish in time for the 10am service on Sunday 21 June. That’s about 34 hours so we’ll limit ourselves to about 2 minutes of each hymn. We’ll be asking people to vote for their favourite hymn(s) and the top 5 will be played in full, in that service. Do join us.”

Further details can be found on the church's website here: https://www.stgregorysmarnhull.org.uk/music/hymnathon/

You can vote for your favourite hymn(s) here:

Ebola outbreak in DRC: The Church is on the frontline.

The Congolese government declared the 17th Ebola outbreak on 15 May. The Bundibugyo strain – no approved cure – has already caused over 1,000 suspected cases and more than 200 deaths. Cases are now in Uganda and DRC.

Bishop Martin Gordon, CMS mission partner in Goma, says: "The church is on the frontline. We are one of the few institutions still trusted to tell the truth."

Church leaders are responding – circulating health guidance, training clergy, and equipping schools. But challenges are severe. Two Ebola treatment centres have already been set on fire.

Bishop Martin asks us to pray:
– For resources to test, isolate and treat patients
– For protection for health workers
– For a treatment and vaccine
– For churches to be voices of hope

Andy Roberts, CMS CEO: "Church leaders are not fleeing the danger; they are moving toward it with love, practical help and hope."

Will you pray for DRC and Uganda today?
