This Sunday, the Day of Pentecost, our services in Kirkside, Longhope and St Margaret's in the Hope will focus on the surprise that is God. Every time we squash our idea of God into what we think we've always known - and frankly that's often pretty dire and unattractive - those who are most open to God's Spirit are saying 'wow' every day and making other people say 'wow' by the unexpectedness and courage of their love and truth.
Last week the General Assembly of our Church met; we'll look at some wow moments from that, and make the connections!
The service is a live-stream between the two worshipping communities, with refreshments afterwards in both places.

Jesus said 'I am the way, the truth and the life'. And you'd take a long, long time to squeeze every bit of meaning from that. We'll try to take a first skim at it on Sunday, when the service from St Margaret's in the Hope will be live-streamed to Kirkside in Longhope. Everyone is welcome in our congregations that are inclusive, reflective and hospitable.

Today, Hoy and Walls Kirk celebrated the Christian service of Michael Wall with the presentation of a Long Service Certificate from the Moderator of the General Assembly. In addition to his 30 years as an elder, Michael is the tech guy in Kirkside, a regular worship leader and a much-appreciated DIY magician. Congratulations and Thank you.

Many people love 'The Lord's my Shepherd', the 23rd Psalm. It's often sung at funerals, and sometimes at weddings (including that of the late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh). This Sunday, in St Margaret's (on screen) and at Kirkside Longhope (in person) we'll have a service focusing on those famous words, and hearing some of the ways they have been turned into much-loved music. Everyone is welcome, and there are refreshments afterwards.

The service in Kirkside tomorrow at 11 o'clock will be conducted by Rev Professor Alison Jack, Principal of New College in Edinburgh and one of our Church's foremost experts on the New Testament. She has a wonderful way of sharing its message very clearly and engagingly, and I know she and Drew are looking forward to meeting you all. M
