Peace campaigners were banned from the national Armed Forces Day event at the last minute this year while the celebration of tanks, helicopters and weapons built to kill went ahead.

Sarah Mullally, the head of the Church of England, and Hosam Naoum, the Anglican archbishop of Jerusalem, have issued a joint letter urging Anglicans around the world to press politicians “to take all necessary measures to establish a credible path towards ending the occupation”.

During her pilgrimage, the Archbishop met Palestinians attacked by Israeli settlers and others illegally detained by the Israeli government without trial.

She also planted an olive tree with the family of Daoud Nassar, Palestinian Christians who have been fighting Israeli attempts to seize their land since 1991 and have faced repeated settler attacks.

In the Archbishop's words "The time to act is now."

“When many Palestinian Christians are leaving, olive trees are a symbol of their deep roots in this land” and that the Nassars were an example of “Christian resistance to injustice”.

Next up for Refugee Week on Wednesday 17 June - Film "A World Not Ours" at Holy Trinity Parish Centre, Old Town, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6BG, with programme starting at 7.45 pm.

"A World Not Ours" is about three generations of a family living in exile in a refugee camp in southern Lebanon, trying their best to survive. The film dates from 2012, but the issues are still very much current.

COME TO LUNCH!

Join Stratford Quakers for a Community Lunch at 1.00 pm on Sunday 19 April. Stratford Quakers will provide bread and cheese, salad and fruit, cake, biscuits and drinks – but feel free to bring something you like for lunch to share with others.
