Derry Diocesan Young Adult Community
Derry Youth Ministry invites everyone aged 18 - 35 to join their new community every Tuesday evening at 7.30 pm, starting 20th October, at Claudy Pastoral Centre.
Each week features a varied programme including invited speakers, scripture, prayer, food, and fellowship, alongside organised social events.

Gospel Reflection (Matthew 22:15-21)

In today’s gospel, religious leaders try to trap Jesus with a question about paying taxes to Caesar. Pointing to the coin’s image and inscription, He teaches us to fulfil our earthly responsibilities while giving our deepest allegiance to God. Jesus reminds us that not every question deserves a fight. What matters is whether our choices reflect goodness, truth, and love, drawing us closer to God,

strengthening our character, and blessing others. A life well lived is measured not by arguments won, but by faithfulness to God’s will.

The coin carried Caesar’s image, reminding us to respect legitimate laws, perform our duties honestly, support our families, and contribute positively to society. Faith does not excuse us from responsible citizenship; it inspires us to fulfil our duties with sincerity and fairness. The coin bore Caesar’s image, but our lives are called to reflect God’s goodness. Though we cannot do so perfectly every day, we can choose to grow: let our words encourage, our hands help, and our hearts forgive.

We may give money to the world, time to our responsibilities, and attention to our ambitions, but we must give God what belongs to Him: our love, worship, gratitude, trust, and obedience. Our relationship with God remains the foundation of a meaningful life.

We may carry coins in our pockets, but we carry God’s calling in our hearts. Give the world your honest service, others your genuine love, and God your whole heart. That is how an ordinary life becomes a beautiful offering to Him.

Tomorrow is World Mission Sunday
October has been the month of universal mission since 1926. Mission Sunday invites Catholics to unite with missionaries worldwide and recommit to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer, sacrifice and financial support.
Funds help young churches and missionaries serve communities in need, both spiritually and materially. Contributions build mission churches, educate seminarians, form catechists and lay leaders, fund children’s health clinics, provide emergency aid in war or disaster, and help missionaries care for refugees.
This year’s theme is ‘One in Christ, united in mission’.
Today we celebrate our c. 1,500 Irish-born missionaries and all missionaries worldwide, thanking God for them, for those who support them at home, and for our growing communion with them and the communities they serve. To read
