This Sunday is RSCM Music Sunday and the hymns we sing will celebrate singing and worship.

In the morning at 10am we will be singing our own hymn, titled Old Swinford. The music was written in the early 1990's by a lay reader William (Bill) Ingley and the words by Rev. David Busk who was curate at the time. As far as I know this has not been sung for over 30 years.

In the evening we will be singing choral evensong featuring music by Vaughan-Williams, Bill Ingley and the anthem is the Choristers Prayer by Piers Maxim which is very suitable for Music Sunday.

All are welcome..

Future Events: On the 26th of July the Wyre Forest Chamber choir are coming to St Mary's to sing Choral Evensong and will be singing music by Howells, Sanders and Attwood.

In October there is a proposed come and sing choral evensong of which more details to follow.

We are always on the look out for new singers, young and older. Singing brings many health benefits, especially for mental health. It is fun and we are a very sociable group. If you feel moved to do some singing, please message this page, speak to one of the clergy, one of the choir or our Director of Music.

This morning was our Director of Music's last Sunday at St. Mary's. He finished the service fittingly with a rousing and technical voluntary, played exceptionally. We give thanks to James for six and a half years of wonderful music, where we have discovered new music and often quite challenging music. We wish James and Jess all the best as they start a new chapter of their life with a family. We hope our paths will cross and that they will not be strangers.

We are now in Lent and this weeks choral evensong reflects that. The responses are those written for our choir in 1994 by William Stevens-Ingley or Bill Ingley, he was a reader at St Mary's having also been a reader at St John's, now the home of Side by Side on the ring road. He also played the organ. The canticles are by Thomas Tertius-Noble and are set in B minor. The anthem is the very powerful Lenten/Passiontide anthem by Kenneth Leighton, Solus ad Victimam, translated as "the only victim".

All are welcome to join us on Sunday at 6:30pm.
