Saint Ignatius of Antioch believed that the Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
Why does that matter?
Because Ignatius was not a Christian living centuries after the Apostles.
He belonged to the generation immediately after them.

According to ancient Christian tradition, Ignatius of Antioch was a disciple of Saint John the Apostle.
John personally knew Jesus.
He walked with Him.
He listened to His teachings.
He stood at the foot of the Cross.
He witnessed the Resurrection.
And he proclaimed the Gospel to the world.

Around A.D. 107, while on his way to martyrdom in Rome, Ignatius wrote:
"The Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ."
For Ignatius, the Eucharist was not merely a symbol.
It was truly Christ given to His Church.

The belief in the Real Presence was not a medieval invention.
It was held by Christians from the earliest generations.
The same faith taught by the Apostles was handed down to their disciples.

In John 6, Jesus declared:
"My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink."
Many disciples left because this teaching was difficult.
Yet Jesus did not take back His words.
Instead, He allowed them to choose whether to believe.

If a disciple of the Apostle John believed the Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Christ, it is worth asking:
What did the earliest Christians understand Jesus to mean?
What faith did they receive from the Apostles themselves?

The Eucharist is the heart of Catholic life.
It is not merely a reminder of Christ.
It is Christ Himself, truly present among His people.
