EVENTS | Marvellous! Stoke Minster celebration with Neil Baldwin Sunday 21st June.

As part of local legend Neil Baldwin’s 80th birthday celebrations, Stoke Minster is holding a special Songs of Praise service and tea party at 4pm on Sunday 21st June.

The service will feature a selection of favourite hymns, plus readings and chat with Neil about his remarkable life and adventures as a circus clown, Stoke City kit man, unofficial university chaplain and faithful Christian.

The service will be attended by VIP guests including the Lord Mayor of Stoke on Trent, Councillor Joan Bell, and will be followed by tea and home-made cakes.

Admission is free. A collection will be taken in aid of the Church Army’s work with vulnerable people and communities.

Revd Alison Thomas, priest at Stoke Minster, said: “We are delighted to welcome Neil for this very special afternoon to mark his 80th birthday and to raise money for a good cause that is close to his heart. We are looking forward to a lovely afternoon of music and chat celebrating his role in our city’s life. Everyone is very welcome to come along, whether or not they are usually church-goers.”

THANK YOU | A massive thank you to former Lord Mayor and Councillor Steve Watkins, who, during the 12-month period in office, has raised over £15,000.00 for local causes. Saltbox's own CareLink service has received £5,294.83.

CareLink Operations Manager Linda Smith said "We are so grateful at Saltbox to have been chosen as one of the Lord Mayor’s charities this year. We will use this generous donation towards the ongoing running costs of our Carelink service which supports older people who are struggling with loneliness and isolation. We do this through our telephone befriending service, where dedicated volunteers make weekly keep-in-touch calls to our beneficiaries who may otherwise not speak to anyone during the week. We also run five weekly Chatty Cafes across the City, and run monthly trips to a wide variety of venues near and far" :)

Over 350 attended representing different local churches, faith groups and many leaders from business, education, policing, and government.
