Crime prevention starts long before the crime.
Exposure to hardship does not automatically produce crime. Two young people can face the same challenges and make completely different choices because of differences in family support, peer influence, coping skills, opportunities, values and protective factors.
Don’t wait until a young person becomes involved in crime. Invest early in emotional support, positive role models, safe environments, mentoring, education and early intervention.
