Sunday was a very special day for our church family, celebrating five people who have come to know Jesus. They told their own stories of how God has revealed himself to them, which were all different, but a recurring theme was the ✌️peace✌️they now have knowing they are completely forgiven because Jesus died and rose again. Then we watched as they were fully submerged under the water - picturing Jesus’ death and burial - and we shouted for joy as they came back up - picturing Jesus’ resurrection.

Are they Christians now they’ve been baptised?

Actually, there was nothing special in the water (apart from a toy snake and a toy whale but that’s another story). Being baptised hasn’t made them Christians. They became Christians when they turned away from loving their sin, turned towards Jesus, and trusted that his death and resurrection is all they need to be forgiven forever. They were no more “Christian” coming out of the water than they were getting in. The point of the baptism is to show the world what’s happened to them. And what a joy it was! 🥳

Our family morning was so much fun yesterday. It was a total DELIGHT to spend the morning with you.

Easter crafts, sensory play, parachute games, welly wanging, egg and spoon race, an egg hunt, singing, dancing, snacks, and most peculiarly of all, a fisherman called Peter from hundreds of years ago turned up because he wanted to tell us all about a friend of his called Jesus. He said Jesus is actually the God who made the universe, but he came to live in it, on a mission to fix our broken relationship with God. Peter said Jesus was amazingly powerful and wonderfully kind. And then he died on a cross, taking the punishment for all our wrongdoing. Three days later, he came back to life, defeating death once and for all, and now he lives forever in heaven. Peter said anyone who asks Jesus to be their Rescuer will be completely forgiven and be friends with God forever. What a message!
