Woodley Methodist Church We are a local Methodist Church and part of the United Stockport Circuit

Throughout the week we welcome members of the local community into our Church buildings for a wide range of activities. Church Activities

God of sorrow and joy,
we bring before you the ache of our world and the wounds of our own communities.
Hold in your tender mercy all who live with the memory of violence and loss,
and all places where fear and harm overshadow daily life.
In Christ, who promises that pain will turn into joy,
stand with those who serve your Church in challenging and fragile times.
By your Spirit, guide us in the work of healing, reconciliation and peacemaking.
Renew our courage, deepen our compassion,
and weave our lives into your great tapestry of hope,
that your risen joy may yet be known among us. Amen.

We acknowledge we carry both sorrow and joy in our hearts.
In moments of grief, be our comfort and our strength;
sit with us in silence when words fail,
and remind us that we are not alone.
In moments of joy, teach us gratitude,
that we may recognise your light in laughter,
your hope in new beginnings,
and your grace in every blessing.
Hold our tears and our smiles both,
and help us trust that even sorrow can lead us towards a deeper joy and understanding in you. Amen.

Lord, we pray for all who are depressed and feel defeated by life. Bring your healing to all who are broken, ease their pain and touch them with your Holy Spirit, that their sorrow will turn into joy. We ask that you will wrap your ever-loving arms around all who suffer, that they may rejoice and walk in the redeeming light of loving and being loved by you. Amen.

This Sundays Service (25th October 2026) will see our the service being led by Rev Katie Smith. The Service will be at 10.15am and includes Holy Communion. We therefore look forward to hearing the message Katie will share with us. The Service will be accompanied by Recorded Music. Following the morning service you will have the opportuinity to Chat with Katie and members of our Church Family over a Cup of Tea or Coffee. Please do join us you would be more than welcome.

Join us tomorrow, Monday 19th October at our usual time of 3:15pm to 5pm for our next Funday Monday. We will look at the story of the sheep and goats from Matthew 25, which reminds us that helping other people is the way that we can show our love for God most clearly.

As a church we organise shoe boxes of Christmas gifts to send via Teams4U to children in places around the world where things are really tough. Last year we prepared over 100 shoe boxes. Part of our activities will be to choose items for boxes to pack on the day. Lord of all hopefulness, your presence brings everlasting joy, greater than any fleeting high. We feel it when like the psalmist, we trust more in you than in ourselves and believe in your forgiveness, as you believe in our potential for good.

Lord of all gentleness, your presence is soothing balm for hurt and pain, a light in the psalmist’s dark pit of despair, grief or regret. Man of sorrows, you’ve plumbed those depths for us.

Calvary’s sorrow and love flows mingled down into the river of life, with your promise to always be there, guiding and loving us, Lord of all.

The beautiful landscape: the hidden isolation.
The fruitful farmland: the hard work it demands.
The pride of industrial heritage: the uncertainty of global economics.
The enrichment of diverse cultures: the division that can result.
The inheritance of the Wesleys; the weight of not wanting the life of our chapel to end.
Holy God, in that place where joy and sorrow meet and things are not simply one thing or another, be with us.
And, more than that, help us to know that you are there.
In all the joys, all the sorrows, and all the places in between. Amen.
