Heritage Open Day
On Saturday St George's Church, Stockport will be open to visitors between 10:00am and 4:00pm as part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme.
*Service*
At 11:00am the Choir will lead a traditional language service of Choral Mattins according to the Book of Common Prayer (dating from 1662).
*Prayer trail and Children’s trail*
Explore the building in different ways - through prayer, and activities for children and young people.
*Handbell collection*
Get hands on with the church’s large collection of handbells and learn how to play them.
*Tower Tours*
During the day there will be the opportunity to climb the church tower.
Please note numbers on these tours are extremely limited, and that the climb to the Belfry and the top of the tower involves climbing a number of tight spiral staircases.
*Historical Exhibits*
The theme of this year’s open day is Ordinary lives: Extraordinary people.
There will be an exhibition looking at the lives of members of the Stockport residents who were members of the Cheshire Regiment who lost their lives during WWI.
In addition, a number of artefacts from the church’s archives will be on display.
Refreshments will be served throughout the day, and any donations received will go towards the work of St George’s Church, Stockport.
