To all on this Easter Day. We pray for the light of the arisen Christ, the man who walked with the poor, embraced a suffering humanity and who rose in Peace and reconciliation to bless us all.

As our thoughts turn towards 2026, St Columba is grateful for all the fantastic volunteers who have given their time to creating a space on the farm that is full of laughter, fun, work and friendship. Our mantra of encountering Christ in community creation spins around these two divinely appointed elements, community and creation.
2026 holds great promise for us all, as we turn our attention to improving our hospitality through Columba’s Kitchen, finishing the roofing on the Education Centre, establishing gatherings for everyone to attend and growing more amazing veg for volunteers and the wider community.
Everyone is welcome, all are valued and appreciated and seeing you in 2026 will of course be a joy.
Celtic Christianity is alive and lived out in real time through boots on the ground and live in our hearts.

Hi everyone, as many will know St Columba has had two FB pages, our main account and the The Wild Ones account dedicated to the sheep. Both accounts have been linked to my personal account. As the WildOnes account has not been used since 2023, I will be closing it down next week. If you are wanting to follow the flock at St Columba’s then please do follow The Society of St. Columba
Many thanks Greg

🌱 Friends First have begun planting a market garden at St Columbia's Farm with the longer term aim of supplying their food banks with fresh produce. Their trainees have been involved in restoring some of the farm buildings with the longer-term aim of establishing a carpentry workshop in partnership with a local company. They would then be able to offer work experience and apprenticeships to those who showed an aptitude for the work.

This community farm project located in beautiful countryside on the Sussex Downs provides work experience, life skills training and the opportunity to be with others in a relaxed, safe and supportive environment. Volunteers work in pairs with direction from the site coordinator.

The Society of St. Columba is part of the Country Stewardship scheme and there is instruction in ecology, horticulture, land management and animal husbandry. Being outside in the fresh air, undertaking physical exercise, being aware of nature’s rhythms and seasons and growing plants, all helps to improve health and well-being.

I believe it was GB Shaw said ‘The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man’.
Common sense always appears crazy to the conservative ideal of working very hard to make sure nothing changes. It is our job ‘to be the change makers’

If there was any doubt about the kind of Christianity I believe in, here it is.

“I do not ignore the theological and metaphysical interpretation of the Christian doctrine of salvation. But the underprivileged everywhere have long since abandoned any hope that this type of salvation deals with the crucial issues by which their days are turned into despair without consolation.

The basic fact is that Christianity as it was born in the mind of this Jewish teacher and thinker appears as a technique of survival for the oppressed. That it became, through the intervening years, a religion of the powerful and the dominant, used sometimes as an instrument of oppression, must not tempt us into believing that it was thus in the mind and life of Jesus.

“In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” Wherever his spirit appears, the oppressed gather fresh courage; for he announced the good news that fear, hypocrisy, and hatred, the three hounds of hell that track the trail of the disinherited, need have no dominion over them.”
