Could you be the person we're looking for?

At Harwood Park Crematorium & Memorial Gardens in Stevenage, we're looking for an experienced and reliable Grounds Person to join our team.

This isn't simply a job maintaining lawns and flower beds. Our grounds are a place where families come to remember, reflect and say goodbye to people they love — so the work you do really does matter.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in creating and maintaining beautiful, peaceful surroundings, and who understands the importance of keeping our grounds looking their very best throughout the year.

🌱 The role includes:

Caring for lawns, flower beds, shrubs and trees
Preparing burial plots
Operating grounds maintenance machinery
General horticultural and grounds maintenance
Helping to keep the site safe, tidy and welcoming year-round

We're particularly keen to hear from someone with at least three years' grounds maintenance or horticultural experience, together with PA1 and PA6 qualifications.

Most importantly, you'll need to be reliable, practical, hardworking and respectful, with a professional approach to working in a sensitive environment.

If you're someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes real pride in the appearance of the places you care for, and would like to be part of a team looking after somewhere that means a great deal to local families, we'd love to hear from you.

Have you ever watched a funeral service live streamed before?

This became more common during Covid when we had to restrict the number of mourners able to attend a funeral.

We still offer this service today. It's especially used when family or friends are unable to make the funeral in person.

Clearing a loved one’s home after they have passed away is a practical task that often feels overwhelming and emotional.

Every drawer, cupboard and shelf can hold a memory. A favourite jumper can remind you of a family gathering. A handwritten shopping list can feel precious. Everyday objects can become deeply significant because they remind you of the life you shared.

Deciding what belongings to keep, give away or let go of can be emotionally exhausting.
