A Prayer for Big Church Festival

Lord, we pray for everyone affected by the sad events at Big Church Festival.

We especially remember the person who lost their life, and pray for their family, friends and all those who knew and loved him.

We pray too for those who were injured, those who witnessed what happened, and everyone left feeling shocked and upset.

Lord be close to theose who are hurting. Bring comfort, peace and healing.

Zimbabwe: Week One … More Than a Coat of Paint

What a first week with Mission Direct in Zimbabwe!

We arrived with suitcases packed with practical gifts, plenty of enthusiasm and plans for what we might achieve. But already we are discovering that mission is about far more than what we have come to do.

At Lighthouse Academy we have painted and refreshed classrooms, turning tired spaces the bright blue of the Zimbabwe sky. The wonderful Suitcase of Hope gifts have been unpacked, carrying with them the generosity, love and prayers of so many people.

But the greatest joy has been the people we have met.

We’ve spent time with children, sharing activities, laughter and faith, and visited inspiring organisations including Our Neighbours, Eagle Learning, Cure Children’s Hospital. Everywhere we have encountered people serving their communities with extraordinary commitment, skill and compassion.

Each day begins and ends together with talking, praying and reflecting. Amongst the busyness, God is reminding us to slow down and really see.

Perhaps that is the greatest lesson of week one. We haven’t brought God to Zimbabwe. God was here long before us. Our privilege is simply to notice where He is already working, roll up our sleeves and join in.

🙏A Prayer for Our World🙏

Loving God,

Creator of our beautiful world,

we pray for the places affected by the wildfires,

here in our local area, across the country and around the world.

We pray for the firefighters and all those working to keep people safe.

Help us to remember how precious water is,

and not to take it for granted.

Show us how we can use less, waste less,

and care better for the world you have given us.

As an Eco Church,

help us to put our faith into action,

in the small choices we make each day.

Give us wisdom and hope,

and help us to look after your creation

for ourselves and for generations to come.

We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
