Founded c900AD, St Margaret's Church has a long and historic past! A place of worship is believed to have been established at Tanfield, by the Monks from Lindersfarne, who were fleeing the invading Viking hordes, with the remains of St Cuthbert, after Tanfield the Monks moved onto Chester Le Street and established a monastery, and Tanfield continued as a Chapel at Ease, with the Monks travelling to Tanfield for worship.

The Pilgrimage from St Andrew's to St. Margaret's Church, Tanfield has been very successful. Picture 1 some of the Tanfield contingency, number 2 the pilgrims leaving St Andrew's Church, number 3 arriving at Tanfield and number 4 is one very tired vicar (who did the walk) and a churchwarden (who did not).
Altogether, a beautiful day rounded off with a picnic in and around the hall.

Join us on Friday evening at 7.00pm in the hall for our "Winge and W**e" evening. A chance for a good chin wag, good company and good w**e (or soft drinks for the drivers) and snacks.
