Recently we saw three of our young people get baptised! 💦
Here’s part of Tom's powerful and honest story ....
⛪️ “I have been going to church my whole life with my family from a young age. I attended Sunday School where I learnt all the bible stories and began to understand who Jesus is.
📚Around the age of 11 or 12 I started to grasp the importance of faith and what it means to follow the Lord. However throughout secondary school, my faith was a constant struggle. It was difficult being one of the only christians in the school and although there were times when I felt close to God I would often fall back.
Looking back I realised that I hadn’t built a true relationship with Him. I wasn’t really listening during sermons, I didn’t pray much and I rarely read my bible. I also wasn’t spending enough time with other christians. All of these things made it harder for my faith to grow.
🏕️ One thing that did really help me however, was to go to a christian camp in the Lake District. That was a big moment for me as I was surrounded by loads of other christians which I’d never really experienced before. It encouraged me so much to see how they lived out their faith and it made me realise that I wasn’t alone. I built some great friendships there and it really helped me to grow in my faith and to see things differently.
⛪️ Everything began to change when I started coming to Kingfisher Church. Since that time I’ve seen real progress in my faith. I began to enjoy worship and connect with songs in a meaningful way. I started looking forward to bible studies each week and I found myself able to understand sermons.
Coming to a new church on my own was a big step for me but it’s been one of the best decisions I've made.
❤️ God has helped me through some tough times and it’s often in those times that I’ve felt his presence the most. One of the biggest things I’ve learnt is that our God is a God who listens, who loves us and who is always there for us no matter what.
Through all of this I’ve come to truly understand the importance of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Even though I have a sinful heart, Jesus loves me unconditionally. Because of His sacrifice I can be set free from Sin and Death.
I want to be baptised today because my hope is in Jesus and I want to follow Him.
Matthew 16:24 says ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me’
Today I’m choosing to leave behind my old way of living and start a new life. One where I take up my cross and follow Jesus Christ as my Saviour and King.
Moving forward I want to continue living my life with Jesus at the centre of everything I do. I want to keep growing in my faith, building a stronger relationship with Him and trusting Him in every part of my life.
I also want to be bold in sharing the gospel and helping others to come to know Him just as people helped me on my journey. My life isn’t mine anymore, it belongs to Jesus and I’m choosing to follow Him everyday."
🙏 Stories like this remind us that faith is a journey—and no one has it all figured out.
👉 If you’re exploring faith or have questions, you’d be so welcome to come along on a Sunday morning 10.30am to find out more.
