CANMORE RESTORATION PROJECT

CALLING ALL FRIENDS AND ALUMNI OF CANMORE!

After a long time of preparation, Canmore is finally undergoing a Restoration Project.

The first stage of the Canmore Restoration Project is aimed at making Canmore ‘wind and watertight’. This part of the project involves mending a number of cracks that have developed in the building (with steel braces), replacing ten windows, repairing damaged chimneys, renewing lead and zinc flashings and restoring almost all guttering. The project is being managed by Hardies (Property and Construction Consultants) and is being undertaken by G.M. Joinery (Anstruther). This first stage will cost £91,000.

As you may know, Canmore has very little income and receives only a modest subsisdy from the Archdiocese to make ends meet. It is not a University property; it is a property of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh and thereby a registered charity: SC008540.

If you love Canmore and have fond memories of your time here; if you are grateful for all the blessings and friendships you have received - not least, friendship with the Lord! - and desire it to continue for future generations of students, please do consider giving whatever you can afford via the QR Code below and share this post with your friends and family.
Thank you.

May St Andrew and St Margaret bless you all, and make Canmore Catholic Chaplaincy ever excel in the many years to come.

PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM FR MICHAEL JOHN (I)
‘Dear ‘Canmorians’ past and present,
Thank you so much for your love and support in prayer over these past ten years.
Today was my last day in St Andrews and I am deeply grateful to the Lord for calling me to His Priesthood - otherwise I would not have had the privilege of becoming your Chaplain and getting to know and love so many of you.
I will post a few more photographs after this post (max is 80 at a time). It is impossible to condense these years into a few photographs as there have been so many occasions and I literally have thousands of photographs and memories to choose from!
These are just a small cross-section (some a little iconic, me thinks) of the joy you have given me as your priest.
Please do pray for Mgr Burke and support him in his ministry as your new chaplain and parish priest; but Canmore is in very safe Canmorian hands!
Thank you to Dame Professor Sally Mapstone for the drinks reception send-off; to the parishioners for their lovely farewell on Sunday; to those who contributed to an astonishing prayer boquete and beautiful Spanish-inspired gifts; and to St Margaret for being my protector and guide with you throughout this time.
With much love in the Lord,
Fr Michael John Galbraith’

His talk will be on: ‘Living the Catholic Faith in a Secular World’, 7:45pm, Wednesday 18 September (after 7pm Mass). 24 The Scores.

NEW CHAPLAIN TO CANMORE

As per the general announcement of clergy moves, my time at St James’ parish and Canmore Catholic Chaplaincy is coming to an end and I will become the new parish priest of St Mary’s (Immaculate Conception), Bathgate.

Canonically, I will relinquish the parish of St James’ on 6 September 2024 - 10 years to the day of my arrival.

For me, it has been a very quick and eventful ten years - not without some challenges but full of very many blessings, for which, I am deeply grateful to the Lord.

Naturally, there is sadness in leaving pastures old; but also excitement in facing pastures new.

I am grateful to His Grace, Archbishop Cushley, for his continued trust in me and for affording me the delight of having been parish priest and chaplain here. I will take with me many fond memories and am most grateful to you all for your love and support.
More anon, no doubt.

Meanwhile, please do keep me in your prayers, as I shall you; and offer your prayers and support to my successor, Mgr Patrick Canon Burke, when he arrives in September.

With fondest blessings upon you all,
Fr Michael John Galbraith

GRADUATIONS 2024, DAY 5 - THAT’S A WRAP!
Congratulations, one final time, to all those students who attended Canmore/St James’ during their time here in St Andrews and graduated this week.
We are sorry to have missed a few of you in the ‘scrum’.
We wish you well in your future endeavours. Thank you for practicing your Faith while you were here; thanks for getting involved; and remember that you will always be welcome back here in your ‘home from home’.
All that remains now (and for the rest of your lives!) is to hold fast to the Apostolic Faith of our patron and guide, St Andrew himself - the reason for all of it!
St Andrean blessings,
Fr Michael John Galbraith
Chaplain,
Canmore Catholic Chaplaincy

GRADUATIONS 2024, DAY 4
Another fabulous day of Graduations.
Class of 2024 has done so well to get through 2020/21 to these days of sheer joy.
And a little surprise in store from two of our graduates who paid a visit to St James’ before joining the crowds once more in the Quadrangle!
