Ministry of Sport

Ministry of Sport Welcome to the Ministry of Sport! The Ministry of Sport operates across sports, across Nottinghamshire & across church denominations.

Our Sport Ambassador, Rob Taylor:

1. Helps amateur & pro sportspeople in their walk with Christ;
2. Enables people interested in sport to explore Christianity;
3. Works with local churches to engage with sports culture. In this way, the Church of England hopes to have a positive impact within the culture of sport. If any of this interests you, please get in touch!

Last week I was privileged to conduct the funeral of long-term Ministry of Sport supporter Darran WInfield-Stanesby, who finally lost his battle with Ataxia on 6th September.

Do pray for his family at this difficult time.

Darran Winfield-Stanesby, from Mansfield, won a string of accolades as a competitor and has been described as an 'inspiration'

As you may have heard, the Ministry of Sport ended its association with the Church of England last month, after 12 years.

Plans are now being finalised to launch the Ministry of Sport as an independent charitable organisation in January 2020. Please do pray for wisdom and guidance in this time, and stay in touch for further details!⚽🚴‍♂️⛳🏏🏓🥊🏸

After 12 years, the diocese has decided to remove funding from sports ministry, meaning that the Sport Ambassador role will end on 16th September. Obviously this is disappointing, but I’m sure you will join me in being thankful for all that has been established in this time, and all that has been achieved for the Kingdom. Literally thousands of people with little or no contact with the church have heard the Good News of Jesus in a relevant way, at the many sports tournaments, quizzes and sports-themed invite events that the Ministry of Sport has partnered with local churches to deliver.

This is just one of a series of redundancies, and no reflection on the continuing potency of sports ministry for reaching the lost. Therefore, the good news is that the Ministry of Sport will be continuing after September as an independent organisation, available on a sessional and consultation basis for church groups of any kind. I’ll also be continuing the major outreach events which have proven so popular and effective over the years. More information will follow on this as things shape up. Many thanks. Rob
