A happy 100th birthday to you Bob Piper! Thank you for your lifelong service to your country, county, and community! With love and blessings from me Kath Jones and all at Connect Southwater Community Church. Photo was taken at the end of the busy VE week commenorations when you still took the time to join me and Angie Choat at Castlewood School to share some of your story with all the children, reflecting together on Jesus's words, that there is "no love greater than to lay down your life for your friends". Have a fab day! X

Is the UK Church dying? Mm.. no! Aside from Christianity still being the world's biggest and fastest growing faith, many of the UK's churches are actually growing, serving their communities and living life connected to God. Don't listen to those who won't give faith in God a chance; come and find out for yourself! We are not perfect, and like many churches we are not all necessarily large in number, but we are growing in so many ways, and there is still plenty of room in God's community for you too! Everyone has to start somewhere, come and learn with us - ask a Christian friend to bring you, or take the plunge and just turn up. You will be welcome!

What a joy and a privilege it was for Kath Jones and Angie Choat today to be able to share with Castlewood children the deep significance of VE Day, 80 years on. Kath shares - "We remembered how Jesus said "There is no greater love than to give one's life for a friend", John's Gospel, chapter 15 v13. We were thankful for those who gave their lives for our freedom, and for friends who stand by us in life, and we encouraged the children to support each other especially during SATS week! We were also honoured to be joined by our local veteran Bob Piper, and his son Robert. Bob answered loads of questions about his wartime experiences and meeting members of the Royal family this week in London. He also helped us to give out newly published commemorative Gospels, gifts to Yr 6 from Connect Southwater Community Church to remember those which were originally distributed in the war to all servicemen and women. "Treasure them" said Bob - and we do, just as we treasure you Bob, thankful for our freedom. My thanks to Castlewood School for their hospitality and the photo!"
