Our focus, in terms of Eco church this year, has been in maintaining the practices put in place to gain our Silver Award. It is an ongoing challenge to prevent old habits from creeping back in, particularly around recycling, energy consumption (turning lights off when rooms are not in use), composting and reusing and repairing things as and when we can.

New developments are centred around our community garden space - developing the shared green space for members of the local community to enjoy with sustainability and ecological health at its core. We concentrate on growing food, native plants and creating eco habitats using environmentally friendly practices: composting, harvesting rainwater and avoiding the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizer. Our aim is to work with nature, encouraging pollinators, birds, beneficial insects and boosting local biodiversity. Recent additions have been wooden planters made from recycled pallets, supplied by a neighbouring business, which are now bursting with new life in the form of a variety of fruit and vegetable crops.

In addition, we have instated a pond and some water features to attract a more diverse range of wildlife. As well as extending our mindfulness/prayer space, we have also installed a washing line for an ecofriendly alternative to drying laundry. The garden is an ongoing project which develops with each passing year, and we have many more projects and ideas to implement over the next few years.

Are you struggling with loss? Please join us for ‘Friendship through loss’, a supportive friendly group provided to assist you during this difficult time.

We meet on the third Friday monthly (this coming week) between 1pm and 2pm to share tea/coffee and friendly conversation in a relaxed and welcoming environment. You would be very welcome to come along.
