Southchurch Park United Reformed Church

Southchurch Park United Reformed Church United Reformed Denomination. Church founded 1893. No off street parking. We also support a few different charities. ALL GIVING IS WELCOME BUT ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY!

Our worship style is loosely traditional with hymns, prayers and a talk/sermon/reflection. We do collect an offering of money during the service for the purpose of paying our bills. We are aware that many people are feeling the pinch these days. Please do come along to our services even if you cannot contribute financially. We are currently without a minister following the departure to pastures ne

w of Rev Sohail Ejaz last February, after 15 years in the joint pastorate serving both Southchurch Park URC and The Cornerstone URC in Central Avenue. Worship services are currently being led by lay people - that is, none of us is a vicar or trained preacher, we're ordinary people who have taken on the responsibility while we have no ordained minister. The church holds one worship service every Sunday morning at 10.30am. The service lasts approximately 1 hour and we then spend time together enjoying a chat over tea, coffee and biscuits. We have Holy Communion on the second Sunday of each month. You don't have to go up to the front of the church to receive the bread and wine, we bring you the "elements" as they are called, to your seat. There is no sharing of a chalice - we have individual small glasses and non-alcoholic wine. We use supermarket bread cut into small pieces not "religious" wafers. You are absolutely welcome to decline the bread and wine if you don't feel comfortable accepting it for any reason. If you don't actually know WHY we celebrate Holy Communion we'd be very happy to explain it to you. We are a fairly informal church, with a relaxed service style. There are no candles, crucifixes, altars or any need to wear your "Sunday best". We don't have any musicians, so our singing is accompanied by an "electronic hymnal" - a "religious" karaoke machine. We project the hymns on a big screen but we also have hymn books if you prefer. If you are new to church and don't know what to expect or what to do, tell us and we'll talk you through anything that concerns you. We all know that going into a strange place where you don't know what to do or what will happen can be nerve wracking. We are a very small church but this means we are more like a family than a congregation. Everyone helps out, everyone knows everybody else, and new friends are always welcomed into the family. None of us is perfect, we all have our stories, our sadnesses, our happinesses, things that worry us, health problems that trouble us. A problem shared is a problem halved, as the old saying goes. Other activities on site include:

A well equipped and friendly playgroup in the rear hall from 9..15 to 3.15 Monday to Friday in term time. The children have daily access to the church garden for outside play. A Ladies' meeting in the side extension at 2pm every Tuesday afternoon in term time. This is very much enjoyed by local senior citizens. There is a small fee for regular attendees to pay for visiting speakers. Girls' Brigade on Wednesday evenings in term time. Scouts on Monday evenings in the scout hut accessed via Kensington Road. The scout hut is also home to many other activities every week.

Southchurch Park United Reformed Church is now closed, the fellowship dissolved, and there will be no further services of worship at the church.
We thank everyone who attended our final service this afternoon, making it a time of celebration of the past and a meeting with old friends. The future of the building is not yet clear, whether it will be sold, leased, demolished, refurbished. It is in God's hands.
This page will shortly be closed. We thank all our followers for their support over the years.

on January 11 2026 the congregation of Southchurch Park United Reformed Church voted to close the church. The buildings are in a poor state of repair and the congregation numbers fewer than 10 people. Regretfully we believe we have no option but to close the church. Our final service will be held in the spring, probably at the end of March.

Our worship style is loosely traditional with hymns, prayers for others and an address. We use Complete Mission Praise hymn book and an electronic hymnal, lacking any musicians in our group Our age range is from late twenties to nineties. Our minister is the Rev Sohail Ejaz, a family man with four children of his own. We share him with The Cornerstone URC church in Central Avenue.

We are a very small church of around a dozen people, but this means we are more like a family than a congregation. Everyone helps out, everyone knows everybody else, and new friends are always welcomed into the family.

We have no off street parking, but street parking is possible. We meet for Sunday worship at 10.30am each week, with Holy Communion on the first Sunday morning of every month. All Christian believers are welcome to join us for Communion. We do not currently have a Sunday school on a Sunday morning, or any creche facilities. Young children are welcome to stay in church with us during the service. A weekly prayer meeting is held in a member's home on Monday morning and Girls' Brigade for both girls and boys is on Wednesday evenings.
