What a gift it is to be part of the Southern Fellowship!🥳

A few of us from each of the six churches headed over to Braishfield URC recently for the Southern Fellowship’s 2nd anniversary gathering. A lovely service with churches supporting one another, learning from one another, and celebrating what God is doing across our wider community.🥰

If you’d like to read a little more about the day, we’ve popped a short reflection on our website:

Representatives from all 6 churches gathered in Braishfield URC recently for the service to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the Southern Fellowship of United Reformed Churches. The service was led by The Revd Mike Perrott, with Revd Stephen Thornton giving a very informative address, and the hymn singing was robust.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by the recent violence in our city.
We share this prayer from the URC in the hope that it brings comfort and courage. We hold Henry Nowak’s loved ones, and all who feel fear or grief, in God’s light.
May peace take root where hurt has been felt.

A prayer following violence in Southampton

The Revd Dr Michael Hopkins, Moderator of the United Reformed Church Wessex Synod, offers this prayer in response to recent violence in Southampton, and in sorrow for all who have been harmed, frightened or bereaved following the murder of Henry Nowak.

God of justice, mercy and peace,
we pray for the city of Southampton.

We hold before you the family and friends of Henry Nowak,
and all who grieve his death.
Surround them with compassion, truth and love,
and protect their sorrow from being used to deepen hatred or division.

We pray for all who are afraid today:
for local residents whose streets have become places of fear,
for communities made anxious by racism, suspicion or blame,
for those injured in violence,
and for all who are working to restore calm.

As a Church committed to becoming actively anti-racist,
we confess that racism wounds the body of Christ
and distorts the life of our communities.
Give us courage to name injustice clearly,
to listen to those whose experience is too often dismissed,
and to resist every attempt to turn grief into prejudice.

As followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace,
we reject violence as a way of seeking justice.
Teach us the discipline of non-violence,
the patience of truth,
and the costly work of reconciliation.

Where public trust has been damaged,
let there be honesty, accountability and careful investigation.
Where anger is justified,
let it be turned towards justice and not hatred.
Where communities are divided,
raise up peacemakers who are neither silent in the face of injustice
nor careless with the safety of others.

God of all people,
make us instruments of your peace:
strong against racism,
steadfast in hope,
gentle with the wounded,
and brave in the work of justice.

In the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.

✨ What a night! ✨
Last Saturday we packed out our hall for our Christian Aid Charity Quiz Night - and what an evening it was! With around 15 teams (about 90 quizzers!), the hall was buzzing with laughter, friendly rivalry, and plenty of brain‑stretching moments.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we raised an incredible £865 for the life‑saving work of Christian Aid. Your kindness truly makes a difference.

A huge shout‑out to:
💡 Hazel, our brilliant Quiz‑mistress, who kept us all on our toes
🍽️ Jill and Sue, for the delicious Ploughman’s supper and homemade cakes
🤝 Every single person who came along, joined a team, or cheered from the sidelines

And of course… the results!
🥇 1st – Old Collectors
🥈 2nd – Awesomes
🥉 3rd – Weakest Link
🍫 And our valiant last‑place team, Quizzy Bees, who went home with some well‑earned commiseration chocolate

It was a joyful, laughter‑filled evening of community, good food, and doing good together. Thank you, everyone, for making it so special.
