Living Within the Boundaries of Scripture Part 2

The Boundary of Scripture

The Apostle Paul sets a definitive limit for the believer's thought patterns: "not to think beyond what is written". The scriptures represent the circumference or the boundary of our thinking. If a thought is not in accordance with the scriptures, or if it does not align with what is written about us, then it is simply not true and must not be entertained.

Consider the facts of life: our situation may tell us we are failures; family members may say we cannot achieve anything; the economy may declare that everyone is going to suffer and face hard times. These are facts, and they represent real circumstances. However, as believers, we do not live by natural facts; we live by the spiritual truth of the Word of God.
When circumstances declare failure, the Word of God declares that we are more than conquerors. We do not have the capacity to think beyond the boundary of the scriptures. If the scripture defines our identity, that is who we are, regardless of natural indicators.

Walking in Victory
Many believers struggle because they allow their thoughts to go beyond the boundaries of scripture. True victory and rest are established when we begin to question every thought, cast down every imagination, and bring every thought into obedience to Christ.
No matter what our situation is suggesting, and no matter how real that situation is, we must ask: "Is this thought according to the knowledge of the scriptures written about me?" If it is not, it is not to be taken seriously. Walking in victory requires that we take only the revelation of the Word of God seriously.

Daily Confession
I believe in the Word of God as the final authority in my life, in spite of my circumstances and in spite of my situations. I am what God says I am, I have what God says I have, and I can do what God says I can do. I receive revelation, and my mind is renewed. I refuse to think beyond what is written in the scriptures, making them the absolute boundary of my thinking. I do not live by natural facts; I live by the eternal truth of God's Word, walking in the rest and victory of my established identity in Christ.

The Eternal Plan: God Dwelling in Man

The reality of every believer is that they are the permanent residence of God. This has been the design of God from the beginning of time. Actually, before time began, the plan of God was to dwell in man, and that is the very meaning of eternal life—God dwelling in man.
In Titus 1:1, the Apostle Paul speaks of the "acknowledgment of the truth". The Greek word for acknowledgment here is epignosis, which means coming to the full, precise, and accurate knowledge of God. We are called God's elect according to this epignosis of the truth. This truth rests on the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.
This raises fundamental questions: Why are we on earth? What is the purpose of this life? Why do we go to work every day, and why are we here? It all began with God’s promise that He would dwell in a species of being called humanity. In His own time, He unveiled His word and manifested that promise as a present reality through the preaching of the gospel. Through salvation, we have received this promise, and the anointing we have from the Holy Spirit is that very eternal life of God residing in us.

The Battleground of the Mind

Everything in this world is in a continuous struggle to condition how we think. This reality makes the mind the ultimate battleground; every battle in life is initiated, fought, and won in the realm of thoughts and the mind. Strongholds, as described in 2 Corinthians 10, are essentially patterns of thinking. There is nothing neutral in this world—everything from education, friendships, social media, and movies is attempting to tell us how to think and condition our perspective.
It is through these channels that thoughts of defeat, damnation, and fear find entry. These thoughts are not natural to a believer, yet they are constantly projected through our gates of information—the eye gate and the ear gate.
However, the scriptures were given not only so that we can know God and the Holy Spirit, but also so that we can know how to think. The believer is a unique, renewed person who is designed to think strictly according to the Word of God.

The Bulletproof Guarantee

The assurance that comes with salvation is found in the word "eternal." Throughout the New Testament, salvation is qualified as eternal—in John 3:16, Hebrews 5:9, and John 6:40. This word is the bulletproof guarantee that the salvation God created and offered is forever. It is not a temporary offer contingent on our performance but an eternal gift based on His faithfulness.

Learning from the Corinthian Example

The church at Corinth provides a practical example of how God handles the sins of believers. Despite egregious sins—idolatry, sexual immorality, and division—Apostle Paul did not tell them they had lost their salvation. Instead, he corrected them by reaffirming their identity. He reminded them that they were sanctified, full of spiritual gifts, and "confirmed to the end" by God. He corrected their behavior based on who they were in Christ, not by threatening their status as children of God,.

Righteousness is Christ

We must follow the apostolic pattern in correcting conduct related issues among saints: affirm the believer's identity in Christ, correct them based on that identity, and then reaffirm that their righteousness is not based on their performance but is Christ Himself. The work of the church is to continue sitting at the feet of Christ until the revelation of "Christ in us" becomes a living reality. When the word is revealed, we come to the true realization that we are one with Him, and we live accordingly,,.

Confession

My salvation is eternal and I am confirmed by God to the end. My righteousness, sanctification, and redemption are found in Christ Jesus alone. I am one with Christ, and I glory only in the Lord

Freedom from Spiritual Slavery

Preaching the gospel without the assurance of salvation creates a foundation for spiritual slavery, manipulation, and dysfunction. When a believer thinks their relationship with God can be broken or lost, they are robbed of the power to live right. True transformation and the ability to lay down one's life for the Gospel do not come from fear, but from the unwavering conviction that Christ is with us eternally,.

The Key to Exploits

The reason the apostles of old were able to do great exploits was their absolute assurance of salvation. Boldness and free access to God are products of faith and assurance. Without this, a believer becomes "carefully guarding" conditions to ensure they "make it to the end," rather than being as bold as a lion to do the work of the Kingdom. Transformation is the goal of spiritual growth, but acceptance by God is the foundation upon which that growth occurs,,.

The Comfort of Assurance

Assurance comforts the heart in the midst of trials and persecutions. It was this "blessed assurance" that allowed martyrs like Stephen to face death with a smile. When you know that your salvation is real and eternal, you can go the extra mile, knowing that every other thing in this world—career, status, and glory—is passing away. The only thing that is truly real and eternal is your salvation and what you do with it,,.

Confession

The gospel has come to me in power and in much assurance. I have boldness and access to God with confidence. My heart is comforted by the full assurance of understanding, and I am empowered to live for Him

The Legal Reality of Salvation

Salvation is effectively a glorious divine wedding ceremony where a person enters into a marital union with Christ. If it were possible for Christ to reject, cut off, or disown a believer because of their sins, He would effectively be divorcing His wife. To claim that a believer can lose their salvation is to brand God as a divorcee. If the union could be broken, Christ would have to accept a breach in His marriage, which contradicts His nature and His Word,,.

The Logic of "As He Is"

The Bible states that "as He is, so are we in this world." If Jesus were capable of divorcing His bride or allowing His wife to simply walk away and terminate the union, then human divorce would be justified under any circumstance. However, we know that earthly marriage is merely a small reflection of the true, eternal marriage of God. Because God does not divorce His own, the believer’s security is absolute,,.

The Security of the Body

No one abuses or hates their own body; rather, they pamper and satisfy its needs. This is exactly what Christ does for the Church. Since we are members of His body, His care for us is a form of self-love. He cannot reject us without rejecting Himself. Our security does not rest on our ability to stay, but on His commitment to the marriage union He initiated.

Confession
I am in a divine union with Christ that cannot be broken. Because I am part of His body, He nourishes and protects me as His own. God is not a divorcee, and He will never disown me or reject His marriage to me,.
