What is the Bible?
The Bible is a collection on 66 books written by a wide of variety of authors over a period of
1,5000 years. Yet it was clear that behind the different books of history, poetry, philosophy and pastoral letter, there is one vitally important common thread.

The Bible describes itself as inspired (“God -breathed”). 2 Peter 1:20-21 shows us that it is the Holy Spirit, the “breath” of God, who inspired each of the authors through the ages. Under his guidance the 66 books are all woven together to form a totally consistent glow of revelation, with Jesus Christ as the focal point.
The Bible is a personal love-letter from God to you. He wants to make himself known to you through it.

The Bible is the Word of God
Many Bible verses (for example Hebrews 4:12) describe the Bible scripture as “the Word of God”, that is, a message that is spoken by God himself. They teach that the Scriptures are actually alive and full of supernatural power. This is because the Holy Spirit himself is intimately involved with the words he has inspired.

The Bible has power
So we see that the Bible is far more than words printed on a page. When it is combined with faith in the person reading it, it actually has power in it to change things. God created all things by speaking his word, as recorded in the first chapter of the first book of the Bible, Genesis.
Other Scriptures (Isaiah 55:11) explain that God’s Word has the ability in it to cause his purposes to come about in the earth. When God speaks a word, he means it to come to pass. He watches over his word to make sure it is fulfilled (Jeremiah 1:12)
The Bible is authoritative
Many times the Bible urges us to be obedient to the Word of God, so that we may prosper and enjoy success in life. For example, Deuteronomy 6:1-3, 6-9 and 17-19.
God tells us that he regards his Word as being of the greatest importance, over everything else including his own Name (Psalm 138:2). For this reason Christians regard the Bible as their handbook, the plumb-line by which everything is measured. It is their final authority, more important than opinion, tradition or man-made theories. It is vital to have a greater respect for what God says in his Word than for the advice of other people.
5. What happens when I read the Bible?
You become more alive
Matthew 4:4 records that when Jesus was tempted by the devil, he responded by quoting the Old Testament that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Feeding on the Bible Scriptures by reading and meditating actually releases the supernatural life of God into our experience - it causes us to be joyful, successful, energetic and vibrant people.
You prosper
According to Psalm 1:2-3, people who love God’s Word and meditate on it are like sap-filled trees, always experiencing productivity, wholesomeness and excellence in everything they do. Paul writes in 2 Timothy 3:15 that the Scriptures give us wisdom for salvation (making complete, restoring your life to wholeness).
