Statement from Gurdwara Khalsa Mero Roop Hai Khas, South Shields
It is with profound sadness that we learned of the tragic death of Henry Nowak. Our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with Henryβs family, friends and all those affected by this devastating loss. No words can truly ease the pain of losing a loved one in such tragic circumstances.
As a Gurdwara and Sikh congregation, we unequivocally condemn this horrific act of violence. The actions of the individual responsible are wholly unacceptable and stand in complete opposition to the principles and teachings of Sikhism.
This tragedy has shocked and saddened people across the United Kingdom, including the Sikh community. Like many others, we have struggled to comprehend how such a terrible act could occur. The courts have found the individual guilty, and he alone bears responsibility for his actions. His conduct does not represent Sikh values, Sikh teachings, or the wider Sikh community.
Sikhism teaches respect for all humanity, compassion, humility, selfless service and the protection of others. Violence, hatred and the taking of innocent life have no place within our faith. The actions of one individual must never be used to judge an entire community whose members have contributed positively to British society for generations through public service, healthcare, education, business, charity work and community engagement.
