Baby and Toddler carers: Berties our playgroup starts back this week, Tuesdays from 9.15 and Thursdays from 12.45 in the Church Hall, for play, snacks, stories, songs and crafts. This half term just £2 a child. All welcome.

Rooted in our readings from Romans 13 and Matthew 18, this Sunday explores how Christ opens a "new and living way" that invites us into deeper reconciliation with one another and a warmer welcome for all who have stepped away. This year the Church of England has a new feast of Creation in Christ, beginning the season up to harvest by a reminder to place Jesus at the centre of everything and expand our call to love to include not only our local but also our global neighbours and the fragile earth we share.

Today's reflection: Peter wants to protect Jesus from suffering — a reaction we recognise. But Jesus begins to show his disciples that the journey to Jerusalem leads to the cross, and that God’s plan is larger than their expectations. Today’s Gospel reminds us that discipleship is a path, not a shortcut, and that God prepares us for what lies ahead. The Church is not built on perfect followers, but on those whom Jesus keeps calling back into place, trusting his sovereignty rather than our own instincts.

At Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asks his disciples the question that still shapes our faith: “Who do you say that I am?” Peter’s answer — “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” — comes not from cleverness or culture, but from revelation. Today’s Gospel reminds us that faith cannot be borrowed; it must be discovered. When we quiet the noise of the world and listen for God’s voice, Christ reveals who he is — and who we are called to be.

This week we're hearing a good chunk of Matthew's gospel: Jesus challenges the Pharisees for honouring God with their lips while their hearts are far away — and then meets a woman whose heart is wide open.
The Canaanite woman breaks every convention to seek mercy, and her persistence reveals what true faith looks like. Today’s Gospel reminds us that God looks beyond rules, appearances, and expectations. What matters is the heart: honest, trusting, and turned toward Christ. Faith like hers is welcomed, honoured, and answered. Matthew 15:10–20, 21–28
It doesn't matter what your background is, whether you know the norms or not, if you come to Jesus, you are welcome. We'd love to welcome anyone who wants to join us at Jesus' feet. 10.30am for worship. All are welcome in this place 🎶

Well that was a blast! Much food and good company enjoyed as we explored Hamburg, Lübeck (and made our own marzipan Schweinchen) and Wismar (the latter perfectly timed for those actually sailing there later this month!!), learned about the German pork butchers of Shields and had a peek at how modern technology can enhance historical documents. And worshipped together in the Lutheran style. Over 40 people onboard for this week 🖤❤️💛. If you missed out, the week after next week we do it all again at St Jude's to explore Lisbon, Gibraltar and Cadiz.
