St George's Church, Benfleet

St George's Church, Benfleet We are a community of Christian believers in Benfleet, Essex, who desire to encounter God through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

God is about restoring relationships, renewing the heart and redeeming the soul. Church is a place to feel accept Our vision is to see the community around us transformed by God through relationship with Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. Our purpose is to be and to do all we can to enable our vision to become reality. We therefore aim:

To encounter God as we worship the risen Christ.

To grow in our prayer life, individually and together, always giving thanks to God and learning to pray in accordance with His will as we seek His guidance in all things. To grow in community life through love and acceptance of each other, learning to be disciples of Christ through our relationships, our study of His Word, and our openness to the workings of His Spirit. To fulfil our mission to win the wider community for Christ through evangelism and social care. In summary, we will seek continually to

glorify God
give ourselves to prayer
grow together as disciples
go and take the Good News to others in word and deed

Just rung the church bell for 5 minutes to celebrate the anniversary of VE Day (not as my friend Ian speculated for the new Pope! - though we do offer Pope Leo our congratulations.)

We are planning to hold a Christmas “service/experience” this year in our Group of churches especially for neuro-divergent children. I have a friend who is an expert who has agreed to support me but thought I’d ask if anyone has any resources or experience they might like to share.

We want to create the best Christmas experience possible for those who might otherwise struggle to access crib services/Christingles etc.

It may be a service or simply a space that those who struggle with crowds and noise might come and experience something of the nativity. Any pointers gratefully received.

Vicar Peter Hillman finally had the chance to dress up as a bishop (with the actual bishop present) on the church’s 60th anniversary weekend. It was something that he had always wanted to do as a child, but it was only today that he was given the opportunity to do so with the bishop’s blessing!

Dear friends,

As a reminder for those who were in church today (and as a catch up for those who were not able to be with us) these are some important notices:

Prayer weekend - 29/30.6.24

Next weekend is our monthly prayer weekend so please do sign up for a slot in the prayer room between 7am and 7pm either Saturday or Sunday. Email Ian King to reserve your slot.

Anniversary weekend - 6/7.7.24

Jar Lids

Yes, you read that correctly! We are in need to jar lids to use as chair feet cups to stop the chairs sinking into the ground for the Anniversary barbecue! Please get collecting and bring to church or drop off in the foyer during the week!

Salads and puddings!

For the Community celebration event on 6th July we need people to bring salads and/or puddings to offer as part of the food we are proving for all guests. Please bring what you can folks.

Friends and family

Most important of all, please do invite friends and family to the event so that we can demonstrate the ongoing commitment of God’s church to openness and hospitality as much this year as we have done for the last 60 years!

Sunday thanksgiving services

At both our services on Sunday 7th The Bishop of Bradwell, Adam will be preaching and he will preside at Communion at 9:30am. Please do make coming that week a priority so that we can thank God for 60 years of His blessing to St George’s and the wider community through the ministry of this Parish. And, if you’ve not been to St George’s for some time….why not make this the week to come and rejoin your brothers and sisters at St George’s?

Will be great to see you there!
