During the festival of Christmas, it was our Christmas tree - a symbol of joy, as we celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ.

On Ash Wednesday, we brought the tree back into church, dead, stripped of decoration and made into a cross. Each Sunday during Lent, we have added a symbol to the cross to recall the parts of the Easter story.

The cross will be put outside the Village Hall on Easter Sunday. We welcome you to enable it to spring to life once again. Decorate it with colourful flowers to witness to our community that Jesus is Risen, alive and walking with us.

Please help us do this and visit the tree and add flowers of your choice.

As you may be aware, the Church and Sustainable Silchester have organised a litter pick for Saturday Morning from 10.30 until noon.

Unfortunately, we've been let down by the organisation that was lending us 25 litter pickers.

If you are able to help tomorrow, great, we're meeting at the Pavilion at 10.30. If you can't make it, but you have a litter picker, and wouldn't mind us borrowing it, please could you either let us know in the comments, or bring it along tomorrow morning?

Thank you!

Parking news!

For those wishing to attend the Palm Sunday walk and perhaps only want to walk part of the route, you can join us from the top of the footpath leading from the Wall car park.

Hampshire County Council has confirmed that no wardens will visit the car park on Sunday, 29th March 2026, to enforce the parking regulations.

It is anticipated that those starting from the Village Hall at 9.30 will reach the point marked by the yellow X by approximately 9.55am, ish, or thereabouts.

The main walk starts from the Village Hall at 9.30am and will follow the red line (note, this is for illustration only, we have not painted any yellow or red lines on the ground!)

This Sunday, we have a farm, a bishop, and a fantastic family-friendly walk!

Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week and commemorates Jesus' triumphant arrival in Jerusalem, riding a donkey to signify peace, just days before his crucifixion. The crowds greeted him with palms - symbols of triumph and victory in Roman and Jewish traditions - and shouted "Hosanna," meaning "save now," a plea for salvation.

We celebrate Palm Sunday with a walk from Silchester Village Hall at 9:30am through the Roman walls led by Bishop Philip, Bishop of Wi******er, and a donkey (no, that's not our Rector!)

Meanwhile, in Silchester churchyard, there will be a farm from 10:30am and a special service in Silchester Church, led by Bishop Philip from 11am.

You are welcome to come for all or part of the events.

Ash Wednesday - A solemn reminder of our mortality and our need of grace. "for dust you are and to dust you will return.”(Gen 3:19)

The Lord is like a father to His children,
tender and compassionate to those who fear Him.
For He knows how weak we are
He remembers we are only dust.
Psalm 103:13-14.

Come along to our special Ash Wednesday services today as we mark the beginning of lent.
