From the Sea of Stars

Our ancestry arose in the ancient seas, first lifeforms drinking light.
Our family evolved: senses, roots, limbs, scales, minds.
We raced across the world in glorious green,
stretched aloft the canopy, spread wings to take the skies.
We made simple tools to shape the world,
befriended our enemy, fire,
and painted horses on the cave wall.
We sang, we loved, we gazed up at the mysterious stars.
We tried to understand what had created us, why we were here,
why we suffered and how to keep what was precious.
Once again we raced across the world,
changed colors, befriended the field and the wolf.
We built shelters which grew to palaces.
We fought and died
yet still we sang. Still we mapped the constellations.
Our ancestry arose in the ancient sea
of stars.

Today is International Museum Day! 🏛️✨

The theme for 2026 is "Museums Uniting a Divided World," and we couldn’t agree more. Museums are bridges for dialogue, understanding, and peace: values we hold dear at Dissenter of Sidmouth.

Today, we want to give a massive shoutout to our friends at Sidmouth Museum! 🎨 They do a wonderful job of bringing our community together through the shared stories of the Sid Valley. We are so proud to support the work they do.

At the Dissenter, we have our own Radical Roots to celebrate! We’ve been busy looking through our own archives, full of the history and memories of the generations who built this welcoming space. We are so excited to share more of these stories with you in the future. 📖💜
