Are you able to help us encourage wildflowers at Longden Road Cemetery? We will be planting wild flower seeds on Wednesday 22nd April 2026. Meet us at 10am at the bench behind the chapel. A small trowel would be useful but not essential as tools will be provided. We would be grateful for your help.

What a fantastic night-time walk last week, discovering natural biofluorescence using UV torches. Glowing orange lichen, blue woodlice and slugs and bright red plants and fungi. A whole new way to experience the natural world. Thanks to our guide, David Atthowe - some more explanation about his work and research here: https://revealnature.co.uk/biofluorescence/

An interesting grave, seen whilst raking today, that of Martha Brown. The stone records that she was a friend and servant for 65 years of the Gough family of Gravel Hill. Unusual for a servant to be given such a large headstone. She must have been special. If you would like to join us tomorrow to spot more interesting graves we will be there from 10.30am. Rakes provided!

Imagine, crisp spring days, time spent outdoors in a beautiful place, a bit of light exercise and some company....
Then imagine you're actually benefitting wildlife at the same time, helping to improve the wildflowers for generations to come.
Well, all this could be yours if you can spend an hour or two to help rake grass at Longden Road Cemetery next week 🙂
Bring a flask, a rake if you have one, and stay as long as it suits you.
Monday 16th, Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th from 10.30am onwards.
Everyone is very welcome and the help would be much appreciated.
