The Friends of Shrewsbury Cemeteries have been shortlisted for the 'environment' category of the BBC Radio Shropshire 'Make a Difference Awards'.
This reflects a decade of volunteer work at the cemetery, helping to manage the site to benefit wildlife.
Fingers crossed for the awards ceremony in September!

UPDATE - due to predicted hot weather tomorrow raking will be available from 9am.
Longden Road Cemetery has had a good cut. We would be grateful for any help raking up the grass tomorrow, Wednesday 12th August. If you would like to join us , meet at the bench behind the chapel from 10am. Rakes provided but gloves would be useful. Thanks!

Would you like to help us rake up the cut hay at Longden Road Cemetery? If you can spare an hour or two join us Wednesday - Friday this week from 10am onwards behind the chapel. Rakes provided but gloves would be useful. Please help us make a difference as by removing the hay we encourage the growth of wildflowers next year.

We will be recording the gravestones this Monday afternoon a Longden Road Cemetery. If you would like to join us meet at the bench behind the chapel at 2pm. Lots of stories yet to be discovered!

We had a very successful open day last Sunday. Thank you to everyone who came. Somebody asked us if we knew where Samuel Meeson Morris was buried. We have found him and can show you. Do get in touch if that was you.

Longden Road Cemetery is full of wild flowers and looking lovely. If you would like to come along and learn more about the cemetery then save the date! Sunday 21st June open afternoon.

Are you interested in local history? If so do join us in our project to record the inscriptions on the memorials. We meet every Monday afternoon, unless raining, from 2pm behind the Longden Road Chapel at the cemetery. All equipment provided. We are a friendly, welcoming group.

Are you able to help us encourage wildflowers at Longden Road Cemetery? We will be planting wild flower seeds on Wednesday 22nd April 2026. Meet us at 10am at the bench behind the chapel. A small trowel would be useful but not essential as tools will be provided. We would be grateful for your help.
