Sunday 7th at 10.30 we have a lay-led (DIY) Celtic-style service for Summertime. Meanwhile, here are some photos from the John Moore Quire last Saturday. It was a great event and wonderful weather for our outdoor refreshments. Thank you to all the many members of the Quire, who literally 'Sang for their supper', and to everyone who worked and baked to make the event such a success.

See Poster re Concert, Pimms, & afternoon tea at Ratlinghope from 3pm on Sat 30 May. Then, on the 31st, there is a Benefice-wide service for all our Churches, at 10.30, at Holy Trinity, Lydham. (Partly because it is 'Trinity Sunday' so we'll be at Holy Trinity church - no flies on us!)

Wow, it's Pentecost already! 24 May. We have an 11.15 service led by Rev Giles, with Afrianne on the keyboard because our organ is still under repair. Refreshments after the service. Pentecost is like the birthday of Christianity, and we've found a picture of a stained-glass window design with a dove and holy flames.

“The wellspring of Jo's art is her view of the world made divine by its Creator … Her strong faith, and an optimism driven by her spirituality, fuels her creative art, displaying a compassion for people and animals.”

On Friday 1st May there is a special celebratory service at Snead church, 3pm, for May Day. Sunday 26 April: 11.15 led by Revd Giles. Our organ is being repaired, so Afrianne is kindly bringing her keyboard. The Gospel is John, Ch 10, where Jesus uses the imagery of sheep to make his point. This was well understood in his day. Not so in urban England but here, in Ratlinghope, we know how true it is … sheep do recognise our voices, and follow us – if we’re lucky.
Sorry, it’s not possible to have refreshments. Our church will be closed for a few weeks for repairs. The plan is to reopen for the 11.15 service on 24 May.

No service tomorrow at Ratlinghope (3rd Sunday) but services at Wentnor (9.30); Hyssington (11.15) and a PET SERVICE at Myndtown at 4pm. Also the Sunday Central service in Churchstoke at 10.30.
As you may guess from the picture, the Gospel is Luke Ch 24, when Jesus joins two people walking to Emmaus, late afternoon on Resurrection Day. Unsurprisingly, it took a while before they realised it was Jesus. The artist seems to set the scene in an English woodland rather then the dry hills of Judea.

12 April, is 2nd Sunday of the Easter season. Our service is at 9.30. Reading is John, Ch 20, about Thomas, the disciple who doubted that the resurrection was true. Then he met Jesus who said, “Vide Manus Meas”. Well he said it in Aramaic, but we have it in Latin on the stained glass. Translates as “Look at my hands.”
“Vide” from which we get many words about looking at things (like ‘video’). “Manus” = hands (think manicure). “Meas” = my, almost the same word but we dropped the sss sound … “Look at me hands.”
Refreshments and chat after the service.
