The Diocese of Chichester is deeply saddened by the tragedy on Kingston Beach Shoreham-by-Sea, in which family members have died, and a younger person remains critically injured in hospital. Our hearts are with the whole family, their friends and their community at this unimaginable time. We give thanks for the swift and courageous work of all the emergency services who responded, and we hold them, the family and all those affected in our prayers.

All our churches in the area will be holding prayers. Revd Jane Bartlett, vicar at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Shoreham Beach issued words of condolence, saying, it will be open all day for anyone affected by the tragic news.

She added, it will be a quiet place to reflect and send prayers for the deceased and the recovery of the surviving young girl. St Mary's church in the town centre will also be open for prayers.
