At St Mark’s we have a lovely children’s corner created for children and parents to use throughout the Church service. We want all our children to be included in all aspects of the church community and this is a great way for young children to start understanding key aspects of Christianity. Although they are busy colouring and playing, they will be taking elements of the service in! Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19.14

There was holy fire and cake today as we celebrated Pentecost! We learned about some of the amazing places in the world that the Holy Spirit has inspired Christians to spread the Gospel. We rededicated ourselves to be inspired by the Holy Spirit in our own amazing place- Shiremoor ❤️🔥🌬

Today in Winged Lions 🦁 we reflected on the word ‘accession’. We played with balloons and bubbles watching them ascend. The children enjoyed keeping the balloons in the air and chasing the bubbles 🫧. We then reflected on the Accession of Jesus and made a craft to help us remember this event.

Our Winged Lions had lots of fun playing in the sunshine today in our lovely garden. ☀️ We spent time learning about the conversion of Paul. We enjoyed a game of ‘blind man’s buff’ - to help us remember that Paul was blinded for 3 days. We then made our own version of Saul- Saul on one side and Paul on the other!

Winged Lions continued to explore the work of the disciples and others in spreading the message of Jesus. We played some games and painted, as we reflected on the life and death of Stephen.

It was lovely to play games in the garden during our Winged Lions session today. ☀️

Our theme was ‘fellowship’. We played games such as ‘follow the leader’ and ‘what’s the time Mr Wolf’. The children were quick to point out that these games were about following instructions and playing together. We then had a great discussion about the disciples after reading Acts 2. 42-47 which tells us about the early fellowship in the Church.

We then finished by drawing images of the theme of ‘fellowship.’

Winged Lions will continue next week from 9.30am. 🦁

Happy St Mark's Day!

Almighty God,
who enlightened your holy Church
through the inspired witness of your evangelist Saint Mark:
grant that we, being firmly grounded
in the truth of the gospel,
may be faithful to its teaching both in word and deed;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen
