St Mary's Church, Sheriffhales, Shropshire TF11 8QY Welcome to our Church - A beautiful Grade II Listed village church in the heart of the Sheriffhales community. The earliest part of St.

Services on Sunday 10.00am Seekers After-school Club on Wednesdays fortnightly. Baptisms and Weddings contact Revd Chris Thorpe 01952 463694 Mary's church in Sheriffhales is a Norman (1066-1154) window that can be found in the nave. However, the majority of the nave dates to 1661 as the church was damaged during the Civil War (1642-1651). The west tower dates from 1721 and was built to replace an earlier tower that collapsed in 1717. Sunday Services are all at 9.30am (unless stated otherwise)

1st Sunday of the month is a family service with children's activities

On the 4th Thursday of each month there is a communion service at 12noon, preceded by coffee at 11am

Notes from the Vicarage: Forgiveness can be one of the hardest things we are asked to do. We know what it is to be hurt, disappointed or let down, and although we may want to move on, sometimes letting go can feel almost impossible. Yet there can be another way. In the parable of the unforgiving servant, Jesus gives us a glimpse of what might happen when kindness and mercy received becomes kindness and mercy offered — and invites us to think again about forgiveness, compassion and the possibility of a different way forward. Notes from the Vicarage: To speak up or shut up? There are times when we know something needs to be said, but we hesitate. We don’t want to cause an argument, offend someone, or make things worse. Yet sometimes saying nothing can be just as difficult. This week we’re invited to think about finding the courage to speak up, the wisdom to choose our words, and the importance of listening. How do we handle differences honestly and lovingly? And perhaps the question is not simply, “Should I speak?” but, “How can I speak so that we can find a way forward together?” Come and see!

Notes from the Vicarage: There are some things we see so often that we can stop noticing them. The cross is perhaps one of them. We see it on the front of our churches, around our necks, on gravestones and in our homes. But what does it really mean to us?
The cross is, of course, a sign of God’s extraordinary love for us. But it is also a challenge. It reminds us that following Jesus is not always the easiest road, and that taking up our cross may mean letting go of our own plans, our pride or our desire to always be in control.

Jesus turned the question around and asked his disciples, “But you—who do you say that I am?” This is far more than a game. Who is Jesus to us? And as we come to know him more deeply, perhaps we also begin to discover more clearly who we are—our identity, our gifts, and the part God calls us to play in his Kingdom. Sometimes they are the storms we see around us; more often they are the ones we carry within—times of uncertainty, loss, change or simply feeling overwhelmed. In this week's Gospel, the disciples discover that even in the fiercest wind and waves, Jesus comes alongside them with the simple words, "Take heart. It is I. Don't be afraid." Notes from the Vicarage: Sometimes the seemingly most insignificant moments, we later realise were momentous, the chance meeting that blossoms into lifelong friendship, the gift that sparks a lifelong passion, interest or collection, the act of kindness that transforms or saves a life.
Jesus' parables remind us that God's Kingdom often begins quietly and unnoticed. A tiny mustard seed becomes a great tree; a small measure of yeast transforms an enormous quantity of flour. What seems insignificant can , in God's hands, change everything. We may sometimes feel too small or inadequate to make a difference, yet God delights in working through ordinary people and faithful acts to bring about extraordinary change. Notes from the Vicarage: We are all encouraged as gardeners to allow a patch of wilderness in our garden - to allow the weeds to grow with the flowers, to encourage diversity of plants and animals to grow together, rather than weeding out the bad from the good seed we so carefully planted. Jesus told the parable of the wheat and the weeds growing together, that we are all a mix of good and bad, capable of extraordinary kindness and generosity but also of selfishness and impatience. The good news is that God does not give up on us - He is patient, encouraging the good in us to grow strong. Come and join the conversation!
