Notes from the Vicarage: Compassion is a quality that I have come to value more and more, it seems to be at the heart of the Christian faith. Jesus had compassion on the crowds who were like sheep without a shepherd, so much so that he wept for them. Compassion is much more than sympathy, it is having “a strong, active desire to alleviate the pain”. Come and join the conversation!

Notes from the Vicarage: “Go and make disciples of all nations” was indeed a great commission! Sharing our faith can raise doubts and uncertainties - "I don't know enough, I haven't studied, what if they ask me about.... ? The disciples Jesus chose were ordinary people living ordinary lives. Sometimes our own doubts can actually become a bridge to relating to those around us at home, at work, and in our community, Perhaps, it is not about going to the ends of the earth, but about meeting people where we are, walking alongside, sharing our lives with all its mess, muddle, doubts and uncertainties as we journey together, growing in faith, held together in God’s love. Notes from the Vicarage: What makes for a good community? Neighbours knowing and trusting one another! Good communication, across different cultures, age groups and languages!
The Holy Spirit breaks open locked doors, gives confidence to frightened disciples, and the gift of language to share the good news of God’s love.
From the day of Pentecost to today God gives us the gifts we need to build real community. Come and celebrate!

Notes from the Vicarage: One of the races I love in the Olympics is the Relay, when a team run, passing the baton forward to their next runner. Each person wants to run their best race, but they depend on each other, and can only win through being a team. This week we remember Jesus ascension into heaven, where he passes the baton of his Good News to his disciples. We are like those disciples, trusted by Jesus to be witnesses of his life in our lives. You can join us in church or on line, or ven come out to the Parish Camp in Upton Magna at the Village Hall! Come and join the conversation!

Notes from the Vicarage: So many fictional characters are orphans! Harry Potter, Oliver Twist, Pippi Longstocking! There is something in the vulnerability of being orphaned that draws us to the character. When Jesus was speaking to the disciples about being taken from them He promised not to leave them orphaned, but said he would send them another advocate, another helper, the Spirit of Truth. This week we will be exploring some of these themes.

Notes from the Vicarage: At the centre of the the agricultural year between Plough Sunday and Harvest festival we celebrate the very important time of Rogation. The focus of Rogation Sunday is to bless the soil and the growing crops, asking for the fruitfulness of the seed and an abundant harvest. This weekend we celebrate both Rogation and the Tractor rally Tractor viewing starts from 9:00am and we hold our Rogation service with the Community Choir at the later time of 11:00am.

Notes from the Vicarage: Have you ever come across a gatekeeper? Someone who can either let you in or keep you out! Gatekeepers can be very powerful, for good or ill!
Sometimes we make it hard for people to come to church by having all sorts of spoken or unspoken rules around worship, traditions, expectations, norms of behaviour that can make people feel uncomfortable.
Jesus said he himself was the gate of the sheepfold, that the only thing that matters is our relationship with him. And his arms are always open in a warm welcome for all.

This Sunday 26th April there will be no service at St Mary's. You are very welcome at St Andrew's Church, Shifnal at 10:30am or join the service online. Details below.
